Favorite M1903 picture(s)?

OK, guys, let's have a little "practical exercise" on posting pictures on this forum. Post your favorite picture or two of your M1903s. You can use thumbnail or just post them direct from a photo-hosting service. Let's see what you have. And I promise...NO AFG**Ns!!:rofl:

1. This was a "lucky shot" of two of my low numbered M1903s on a downstairs rug. The light was just right. On top is SA #144408 with what looks like an original finish receiver and SA 05 barrel. Below is a nice RIA rebuild. Only problem with the RIA is someone D&Ted it years ago.

2. This is a picture of a "classic" British Remington M1903. I spent quite a bit of time getting the light just right. To answer the obvious question: No, it doesn't belong to me, but I sure wish it did!!:(

Refirbished 1903's

A number of years ago I purchased two 1903's that had had rough lives overseas. At the time WWII replacement 2 groove barrels were available cheap, as were virgin scant stocks. I reparked both. The '03 A3 was kept stock and used to qualfiy at my DCM club. I removed (and saved) the sight base for the Remington 1903, and put a rail on it for a red dot sight. It never worked right. Two years ago I got interested in it again, and realized that cheap red dot sights have real bad paralax problems. I then put an Eotech on it. It now shoots great, and is my Elk rifle

Remington M1903 No. 3017550 w/12-41 barrel and M1905 Bayonet (SA 1920). Not necessarily my favorite picture or rifle but one I have not shown in a while.

My m1903 Nm/ Sniper

This is my first photo try; I hope it works. This 03 is a 4-25 dated barrel springfield, ser#12484xx, with front scope block, and drilled and tapped for rear block on rear sight base. No scope. I've hade this rifle since 1962.

Jim,

Your computer's photo software should have a means to reduce the resolution of pictures. On mine, there is a tab for "Image"; I click on that and one of the options is "resize" and it allows me to cut down the resolution.

For example, my digital camera takes a "raw" picture of about 3 Mb. If I posted it here, even assuming this forum would accept it, it would even take the DSL guys forever to see the picture displayed. What I do is cut the pixils down from roughly 2000x3000 to about 600x900, or, if you're showing the whole rifle, to about 200x1000. That gives you somewhere in the 50-100 Kb range in size. It still shows reasonable detail but doesn't take forever to download.

If you want to save the original picture, when you cut it down, do a "Save As" and not a "Save" when you're done cropping it. I identify the picture by the original name or number with a "LR" at the end [low resolution].

One I just finished rescuing from Bubba. $150 for rifle another 125 for stock and about $50 in assorted bits and pieces. Looks good and shoots good. What more can you ask for less than $350?

Family portrait

My favorite is the "family portrait." The two at the top have been in my family for the better part of a century. Below them is my now-correct '03 (1918 vintage). The RA 03A3 and HRA M1 are also correct. (My wife says she's correct, too, when she says, "Enough is enough!")

That's actually a BOYD stock direct from them on sale. I'm pretty sure that's where CMP is getting theirs too, but after a bit more work has been done to the stock. As you can see mine is slightly fat. But then I have big hands and it feels better for me.

Here comes the Cavalry

Took this picture after I finished cleaning all the gold paint off the stock. CMP sold this rifle to me for $200.00 , it is a low number Springfield with a 1942 barrel, chrome plated, that was painted gold with an A.L. decal on the butt. Took awhile to clean the blank gunk out of the bore but it shines now. Just Another Old Doggy ,Don

Obviously, Navy buildings all looked alike "back in the day", but that Marine in the grass with the building in the b/g puts me in mind of the 600-yd line at Naval Station Annapolis, with the line right next to the Admin Building! (What a h-e-double-toothpicks of a place for a "Rattle-Battle" Match!!! Guess the people inside just took the rest of the day off!).

And what's up with the round thingy for a front sight - that's not a cover, is it? A NM sight, maybe?

You should be more careful - you're gonna get JB fired up. The first stock(s) WERE Boyd's, and that's why the one at CMP Store South said "Boyd's", but they went with a different supplier and the CMP stocks are NOT Boyd's....

Hey!! My father in-law had the Howard Dean name first... He was born in 1898!! Incidentally, his uniform now resides in the Museum of the Marine Corp in Quantico. Upon his death my wife donated it and it could still be worn today, it is in such good shape. He was a machine gunner and his Campaign Cover has the MGC device denoting machine gun company on it. Here's to the old corp :beerchug:

M1903 w/New Barrel

Here's my one & only M1903. It has a new/old stock 08/42 Springfield barrel. I think the serial number gives it a year born of 1934. In a previous life it was tapped for a scope as you can see the screw heads by the serial number. The 16" bayonet is an AFH made in 1942. No cartouches on the wood but I like how it looks and it shoots better than I can. The "V" notch sight is tough on my eyes, I raise the ladder & use the diopter.

you can put your pics up on photobucket.com . i did 4 years ago, and they are still up there. i just put a large pic of my m1 garand on this site, and it was automatically resized. and still looks good.. photobucket is ok by me...
