Please can you help me identify this canteen - it was left in Papua New Guinea c1973 so could be ex-military from US, Australia or even UK
It is made of aluminium with a hard black plastic screwtop with an unusual metal centre part (a valve?). The reverse is rounded without the concave indentation. The base is hardly flat but it does stand on end. There are no markings.

Unfortunately I don't have knowledge of that particular canteen, but there are many experts here and I hope someone may know something helpful.
It looks early military to me regardless where it's from.

Looks like a very old Chinese PLA (People's Liberation Army).

It’s Chinese made. There are several variations of it. I think the type 65 is the most common (PLA Type 65 uniform). It has a flatter bottom.
You see the ones shaped like this one with Viet Cong uniforms. Some supposedly painted with trench art by “Charlie” during the Vietnam war.
yes the cap looks just like that - the metal 'stud' has a tight fitting ring around it which on vincents photo has a string attached - on my cap the string is missing but i can now see where it was attached - i guess the string was used to stop the cap going missing and it is not a valve

We used to have an alloy water bottle like(?) this as part of our '44 pattern webbing in Malaya, together with an alloy cup on the bottom. I always wondered how these things were made. How were they formed hollow? Spun? Shaped?
Annanuvverfing too.... Who designed the cup to be made from alloy so that you could only drink very cool liquid? A nice cup of tea was out of the question unless you wanted to scald both lips!
british would make more sense to be found in PNG but i am pretty sure it is chinese having followed the leads above - the opening is quite narrow and the thread is fairly crudely made and has a wide pitch and high helix angle - the chinese/vietcong ones have this - british and american ones have a much finer thread it seems
anyway you can now buy a product called hotlips - a silicone rubber sleeve so you can sip hot tea out a metal cup
Ah, yes, hotlips. My pal 'Rusty' Jake ('Rusty' due to his hair colour.....) regularly used to regale us with tales of his local Chinese girlfriend who went by the name of hotlips. But I'm not sure he was talking about '44 pattern water bottle cups................ Mind you, we were all just 20 or so!
And her name wasn't hot lips because she wore red lipstick .........
Can we see a large pic of the beautiful WD 40's(?) mechanical Office clock? Is it a WESCLOX or a Smiths.
