Perhaps it has a partnered rifle out there; does the bracket have a serial No. as members here can possibly track what rifle it may have been fitted to.
What was the fleabay price on it as they vary from non-bracketed $1,400 - 1,800 up to $2,500 for ones with the brackets looks a pretty good pick up P.L may give advice on sticky drums and as he calls it crows on a wire.
the bracket looks like one of the numrich repro's, so no rifle number.
$1,125.00 for the pair.and yes its a repro bracket.Wonder how much for Mr Laidler to fix it
Thats a great price well done, the last bit I cannot tell you only Mr Laidler can do that one thing he says is try to source local companies that have the expertise but there are 2 sides to this story;
A) If you do go local whats to stop them faffing it up after they get into it and find they cannot do it I suffered that fate with a WWII compass going ex-east and they smashed the bezel glass handed it back and said sorry. Un-fixed
B) Trusting the postal system - scary but should be alright - a shooting associate has posted a few No.32's to Mr Laidler from Australia and they have all returned safely, they look and function flawlessly just as if they have come from the factory such is the quality of the refurb, when I was last there at my associates house he had ....well lets just say lots of them

Jim, you're butting in and blowing this whole thing way out of proportion when it had nothing to do with you in the first place. Perhaps I could've worded that first comment a bit different but felt Peter would understand what I was getting at by remembering the hand written comment he added on the back of the worksheet when repairing my L1A1 scope a year ago.
If Peter doesn't want to do restorations anymore that's his prerogative and his services will be greatly miss but we No.32 owners would expect such an announcement to come from him, not you.

Guess P.L is sick of them I suppose after doing them and other things in the Army one got tired of the profession I know I did after 17.5 years as a hire crane operator in the game and over my career after lifting 0000's of tonnes of gear in all sorts of crappy places and all sorts of weather and plenty of scares in between I hung up the levers. Guess it is the way of things and if it is the way of things then we had better find an equally talented instrument person/s to fix the 32's but one thing you cannot do is to put P.L's experience and innovation into their heads.
So nurse your scopes and hope that either P.L has a change of heart or a Grandmaster of scope fixeruperers arrives.

Yes and compasses are just compasses Villiers as I found out sending my Mk III to a firm that said they could overhaul it, they smashed the bezel glass and then sent the effing thing back saying sorry and did not even try to compensate me Oh! yes they did send back with the compass all the broken glass.....It ain't necessarily soooo (The compass remains unfixed to this day)
Scopes are just .... scopes. And here in Germany (where I live) there´s a plethora of scope experts who are willing to repair almost any type of military scope. Maybe it´s because so many different manufacturers were situated in Germany and Austria. Perter L´s expertise was of particular value as he´d spent so many years specialising on this specific model.
I just don't like the idea of me being advertised by others as the scope repairer or repairer of anything. And please, please don't think I do or ever take any offence about anything. I don't! So no need to apologise or argue BAR or VH or anyone.
Just don't volunteer me or advertise me - or even mention me!
(VH. When you've done a few thousand+ telescopes, the numbers and types all just blurr together so remembering a particular one is a non-starter. In fact I never even get to know who's tele I'm dealing with)
so from now on when it comes to no32's you will be "he who shall not be named, grand high poobah of mid to late 20th centuary british scope fixerupperers" or "that guy who wrote the book" for short.Quote:

for what it is worth, i asked around and will get my reticle done locally by a bloke with no32 experience, when the time comes.
henryr read add on Post #12 make sure whoever you get has the right stuff as if it goes pear shaped its gunna cost you big time to rectify it and thats if the Myst-roe will fix another's errors, I am not trying to say your local is not up to the challenge but from what I have read these last few years on here is there are certain challenges with the 32's but being a Mk III is not the worst of them I guess.....
to be honest, by local i mean he is in sydney, 550+km away but he is still in NSW so that is local compared to shipping one to england.
i certainly hope he is up to it, but i have heard his name mentioned a few places as being able to do them and having done restorations on them. i haven't talked to anyone first hand who has had him restore one, but i did talk to another member here who has a friend that had a couple done and was happy with his work.
The thread is not ruined I am happy were still on the same subject.
I'm pretty good at fixing things..... Anyone want to send me theirs and I will try and fix them? I bet after a few or more I could get the jest of it and do a good job...:madsmile:
In all seriousness, I would like to find one in bad shape and have a go at it.

Try fixing scratched lenses, stripped/sheared 8BA body threads and remove parts seized solid by 60 years of hardened grease and mastic that has set like concrete. That won't move without heat - which immediately destroys the balsam. Or what about the old type sintered alloy locking segment that disintegrates as you're looking at it. And you can't go to the tray and get spares.......
What about the light gauge to gauge the output against the input to test for light scatter. Who will range test them on a slave action to test for fastness and shock load?
Post #23 says but a smidgin of what this person has held within and what I have been saying all along it is what is held from practical hands on been there learnings that may be lost.
I do feel empathy for the person being flooded by the world market but heck what are we types supposed to do. He can write another book but if he tried to put all what he knew and the stuff that is not in text books then cripes he would be 180 y/o before it was finished and then it would be a library.
I have no idea as to this dilemma facing the fraternity in the future cause as far as I can see unless P.L has a like minded apprentice that he taught and wanting to carry the banner for the 32's then we are in somewhat of a bind ere' what! :yikes:
One reason I started on Binoculars .......opening up a £5 pair bought as spares on that auction site, I realised there is more to it than meets the eye (excuse the pun), the tools required just for starters.... some required very little and some required immense repairs all a learning curve, I,m still building up or making a lot of the tools, there is a post in the vintage military Gear if anyone is interested in prism repair. see link below.Quote:

Peter, that´s exactly what I suspected .... and why I chose a Trijicon, now that I´m not only hard of hearing, but also going long/short sighted (?), both at the same time. But have decided to leave the scope at home this weekend, as it´s just too boring.Quote:

Can't see what's in the bag but from the remains, you have got what could be a perfectly useable/serviceable tube. All of the optics - if you have them from the old cut-up No42. And the old No42 inner OG tube can be simply converted into No32 spec. All you need now is the deflection cursor slide and graticle block and nut. And a set of drums.
It shouldn't be beyond the wit of a good turner to make a set of drums but....... If he's doing that then just machine a simpler set of Mk3 drums instead! By next Thursday I'd have a Mk2/1 in my hands
As a matter of interest, what IS in the bag? Looks like a centre axis rod and sleeve from a pair of No2 binos to me from here!
If you'd answer about what parts are in the bag you could learn something to your telescopic benefit. I'm looking hard but have mislaid my X-ray specs!
Sorry Peter forgot the name so had to go through both your Books to try and figure it out. They are no32 mk 1 or mk2 clicker plungers. You have the exploded view of the mk3 in your books with parts list but no exploded view of a mk2 just the parts list that I can find.They are the forth part from the right in this picture.You do have me learning .but it is slow going with out me being able to see the actual parts and them interacting with each other.
