Scope location in M1D mount

I have just received an M1D from CMP, a Special with the repro scope and scope mount. The gun arrived without the scope being mounted.

Let us not discuss this rifle (I wanted a shooter), but I do need help in positioning the scope in the mount. How much space should one have between the front of the mount and the adjustment blocks on the scope? Should the scope be positioned to give a correct image in the lense? Any hints on mounting the scope in the mount? Any and all help is welcomed. Thanks in advance, John McP

And vary it according to what eye relief fits your shooting position best.

Here is how mine came from the factory: the rubber eyepiece just touches the rear iron sight. Eye relief is good with the check pad mounted using the factory pre-drilled screw holes.

Thanks for the pics, and I should have indicated the M82 scope in place of the M84. Not a lot of difference I think. Still need to find the rubber eyepiece at a reasonable price. John McP

Mine is mounted as above with the adjustment covers being about an "1 1/4 in front of mount with the rubber eyepiece almost touching the windage knob.

Now twist the rubber eye piece to contact the SIDE of your face, not poke your eyebrow.

That was what I was thinking...it's supposed to shade the outside of the eye.

It won't fit that way. It interferes with the rear sight.

Well, most of the time you'd be employing the optic...your #2 would take the iron sight shots with his rifle.

Then move the scope forward or cut the rubber.

Do you have your scope moved forward where it doesn't interfere with the rear sight or did you cut the eye piece? Do you have a photo that you could share? Seems like the scope would have to be moved too far forward for comfortable eye relief to eliminate the interference issue.

Not that type of interference. It would physically have to occupy the same space.

You have it a smidge too far back then.

The problem is that it would take more than a 'smidge' to create enough clearance for the rubber. If I moved it far enough forward for clearance, the eye relief won't be good - at least for me. The scope and mount came pre-assembled from the DCM and the eye relief seems perfect so I just left it alone. I'd like to see what it looks like with the rubber eye piece rotated to the side by I have not been able to find any examples of this in any of my books or online.

Anyone have any photos to share with your rubber eyepiece mounted with the shade to the left?
