Does any-one have an original Thompson Transit Chest that they are able to photograph, please? I am interested to see photos of the outside of the box and also the inside showing internal fittings/divisions etc, both with the gun in and without, if possible please. Thanks for any help.
Do you mean the chests we received them in from the US or the chests that we sent them out from Ordnance in?

You could just type Thompson Chests' in the search engine thinggy. Reminds me of when I typed in NIPPLE COVERS while looking for some brake bleed nipple covers for my old Mini Cooper. Got about 38 pages of pure erotica. You never know, you might get a few pages of Emma Thompsons chest!

Thank-you very-much browningautorifle and Lee Enfield for your help with the pictures of the Thompson chest which are useful in showing me what they look like. They seem to be a scarce item here in the U.K.; perhaps some were shipped to Russia with the guns. I may have a crack at making a repro when I have completed the restoration of a Bren chest.
After taking a few measurements, and doing a few back of an envelope calculations, of the pictures of the single Thompson Chest and also of an example of one which had been for sale on e-bay I've come up with some external dimensions of the chest. These dimensions include the lid with the lid closed. Length 26.5" external, width 7" external and height 8.5" external. I have based my calculations on the assumption that the lid hinges are 2" wide at their widest point, the same as on the Bren Chest. Is any-one able to confirm or correct these dimensions, please? I would guess that a Canadian made single chest would be the same dimensions as a British made example as both would be made from the same blueprints???
They stopped procuring chests when the gun was classed as personal weapons rather than unit weapons, and the contracts were cut short.
If you contact the Royal Armouries at Leeds, and pay them to scan the drawings they still have following:-

I'll bet they're just as the picture shows...varied storage of mag pouches, drums and mags. You'd need lots of each to fit and fiddle to see what fit perfectly.
