Bren Mk1 Mag identity
Hi guys,
been meaning to ask this question for ages.
I have MK1 Bren mag with a D with broad arrow inside it. on the side and also the top plate, apart from that no other markings.

Any ideas who made it, is it Australian?
thanks

Interesting piece, I was led to believe only Enfield made the mk1 mag however it does look like a pre ww2 Australian acceptance Mark.

HI, could it be Daimler ? but you need Kev or Peter, they are the men
-
I must admit it did cross my mind, but don't know anything about their production of Brens.

Daimler?? Doubtful.....
Look at the below picture of a Daimler receiver marking:

While the 'D' looks CLOSE, the real problem is that Daimler group really never got going till long AFTER the Mk I mags were already withdrawn and changed to Mk II status with the added spring in front.
Never say never, but...... ;-)

I agree with Blitzkrieg in thread 2 and Tom above that the Mk1 mag was obsolete before Lithgow started series production. But never say never of course. As for Daimler......, they only came onto the Bren scheme with the Mk2 guns, well after the Mk1 mag was obsolete. It's a mystery to me! Kevin....., Adam......., where are you when we need you?

Isn’t a broad arrow inside a capital D an Australian commando marking?

I thought it was the Australian property mark.Attachment 69284

If it were, I'd have expected the Australian contingent to come in with their thoughts and opinions by now. It was always D-arrow-D 'Donald Duck' mark while I was there
-
from what little I know the D with arrow inside is a pre WW2 Australian property mark.

Can you post a pic of the forward edge of the mag and look for a very smal marking on the back spine of the mag. I won't tell you what to look for so not to influence you. It will be small, about 5mm across. I have a feeling Kev will be interested.

Welcome back B-P. Where've you been, anywhere good? Holiday?

sounds intriguing.... 2 rather poor pictures enclosed, hope this will be ok. I cleaned off the gunk at the top of the rear face to find a small rather stumpy, curvy broad arrow. Is that what you were expecting?

Arrow inside a D is an Australian Govt ownership marking

Mmmmmmm. In that case, the plot thickens! Who MADE the magazine though?
Added later: Got some more info from Oz but will wait for KevG and BP to come in
