am buying a sportized g43 walther rifle (ww2 german 8mm semi auto)
barrel action / bore are all good. was east german re issue ,
the buttstock was cut down and a rubber buttpad installed for deer huntin !
i am hoping to carefulyl clean the stock try and find a donor ( k98) buttstock piece an buttplate and re lenthen the butt .
ANYONE try such an idea ?
also i have a cut down 5 shot mag , need a longer proper mag ......anyone have a mag or source??

I did that on my K43. I used a piece of 2x4. I drilled the trap hole and then I traced the repo cupped butt plate on the wood and cut it out, shaped it close to fit in the butt plate then attached it to the rifle. I then used a dremel tool to final shape it so the trap opened. It probably wasn't the right way to do it but it worked and you can't tell by looking at it that it was ever cut down. Only the part under the cupped butt plate was cut off on my rifle so the wood I added is not visible.

in my case its a very thick rubber shotgun like buttpad and i think a piece from a k98 ( broken stock ) mite be grafted / attached to make it right........any pics of your repair? did you just glue it or some how pin it to hold in place?
my stock also has a extra large made pistol grip , added on, so not sure if it can all be altered right or if i should get a modern made replacement stock .............depends on my budget / time / and skills.
The pad on mine was about 1 1/2 inches thick. I will take some pictures of what I did with mine today.
Here are pictures of what I did. I know it probably wasn't the right way to do it. I am not that experienced with wood working and do not have a lot of tools. Noticed the glue was loose when I took it apart today. My dad sent this rifle home from WW2 and he probably cut the stock for hunting. I remember seeing the butt plate in his work bench drawer when I was a young kid and not knowing what it was for, mostly remember flipping the little door. Don't know what ever happened to it.

I see lots of mags around, at shows and on websites; they are usually asking $250-300 for them. I was happy when I found a 5 rounder since I can only load 5 rounds at a time at my range, and I really like to shoot my G43. If you decide to sell the 5 rounder please let me know.
ok ill keep that in mind................what would a cut down 5 round mag bevalued at?
I may sell or keep the current 5 round mag if / when I get a proper original or working modern made copy of the mag.
turns out THE WOOD STOCK is painted black............it looks to be laminated? thru the thin paint.
question .............wHATS BEST WAY, OR SHOULD I remove the paint??
its also in need of having the xtra big pistol grip altered back to ww2 military looks.
any advise or comments?
rifles at home now .............it appears the stock was painted black, and the butt was cut off just were the buttplate was flush to the stock. IT APPEARS its laminated under the paint .
any suggestions ? I have an idea I can replace the wood under were the buttplate will go, any options to removing paint with out hurting the wood stock?? ill be disassembling the rifle to have a look and oil the bits pieces to get to know it better.Attachment 70432Attachment 70433
it appears mine is bubba altered like yours was sir , ill be looking into performing your idea on my stock, AFTER i clean up my stock, fix the big grip back to nearer the ww2 look, an give all metal parts a basic cleaning / oiling and look over, and find a proper mag,Quote:

disassemble things , found a little good an some bad ...................the buttpad was removed and found bubba had THINNED stock so cannot use a proper steel buttplate.
all parts of gas system were stamped by vope / east germans
the front band was slightly altered by bubba by having a spring UNDER the stock .
top wood guard seems un altered.
I will now consider getting a modern stock from Poland and will sell off the bubba stock perhaps some one with tme an skill can use it / re store it .
Note that repro K43 and G43 stocks are still offered now and then, not sure of the quality though. But it may at least give your G43 an authentic again. You will also have the possibility to refit a proper (or repro) buttstock plate.
