Repairing "The matchstick stock"

This stock was damaged by the shipper, disgraceful. It takes a lot to do this much damage. If the owner likes to reveal himself that'd be fine I just didn't get his permission, but he did give permission to run a thread.
I've nicknamed this one the matchstick for obvious reasons.

Damn fine wood work repairs there from a whole messed up delivery.....

I want to know who the shipper was? Is it all on the shipper or was the packiging marginal? Hard to see that much damage if it was shipped nude with a shipping lable.

Did the Shipper pay for damages? And who was the Bulldozer Shipper run by a Tank Commander that did more damage than a dozen Bubbas?

That looks 100% better than when I hand it off too you. All I can say is wow. The rifle was shipped with 2 others all wrapped with bubble wrap an then shrink wrap. Then was stuffed with that pop corn that taste so bad. Fed-X dropped them off in my drive way with out signature. Been a big fight over it with them, The shop who sent them is still fighting over it. they made it right for me. According to there police only firearms shipped in the factory box can be insured for replacement. I think driver drove over them, Other two were bad but were parts rifles to begin with so were cut up any way.

As usual in this plastic world of inept and unthinking humans there are those knuckle draggers that treat peoples mail with scant respect and we have all seen on TV how FEDEX treats parcels as usual the end user the recipient is the one who suffers. Then as soon as the rounds start flying they the courier say their employees are unimpeachable they should place hidden cameras on their vans so the ratbags can be caught out and sacked on the spot and too bad so sad you treat people like dirt you can go back to it stiff cheddar....I to have received damaged goods from AU Posts abysmal efforts at not being able to read a big orange sticker that reads "Fragile Handle With Care Do Not Stack On" another mob of knuckle dragging twerps........ggggrrrrrr:mad::mad::mad::mad:

UPS am USPS are not to bad they try alot harder than Fedrex. I had fedx leave a drill press on a skid in my drive way an no one knows were it went. Auction house I got it from refunded my money not sure if they ever got there’s back. Bad part is that fed is the highest cost to ship with. Had a package going across to west coast. USPS was 7.00, UPS was 15.00 , Fed was 21.00 an 2 weeks to get there. An only one with insurance is USPS. So who knows. I will try an get some Pictures of rifle for that stock. after gun show is over today.

It's a two piece Carcano, well, it was.

Is it an "I" Type?

What glue did you use for the repair?

The glue? Oh, it's a secret formula handed down from my Great Grandfather who learned of it from a 100 year old Master German stock maker. Sorry can't share it. What I can share are pics of what's next,,,freshening up and blueing of the screws and sling mount. ;)

I added an oak patch over the extra sling mount which houses a few of the pins. Used oak because Bubba used oak as the pistol grip. A view of the longest pin extending through the tang to just behind the pistol grip. This took care of a crack on the wrist and tied everything together nicely. Inside the barrel channel are pins running from the recoil lug to my fingers on the right side to join the horizontal cracks in the forearm,you can't see them but they're there.

The buttstock had a chunk missing. Rather then splice in a patch I opted early on to make it appear as a knot. Turned out well I think.

wow that is way better that when I saw pictures of it before damage. Glad I just wanted this one for myself as a shooter. I like it alot owe you big time:):):)

Very well done! That's the kind of challenge that is fun to work on. As long as someone else hasn't put glue in the splits before, it's usually very surprising how good this type of repair can be when it's done carefully. I often put reinforcing dowel pins across the splits when they are serious (or when parts were completely apart like these ones).

I did a Cooey years back for an armorer in my battalion. The stock was cracked so badly it would open right up when turned and had pieces off. Another was a Savage 99 that had the stock broken into 12 parts. I had to make two pieces and the put those two together. All worked out in the end. Of course I have NO pics. That's a very nice repair...

I can not wait to see it in person an put all the metal back in it:)

here is few bad pictures the stock is great Jeff did a wonderful job. Now i need to bed stock an find a few pieces to complete the trigger guard. then time to shoot.
