I just think this rifle needs to be seen but not heard.
Outstanding, one of the Quantico rifles! Tell us more.

But...I'll bet a clip of eight won't be noticed.
Were it mine I'd through caution to the wind and enjoy shooting it while I still could.
This was one of those things that I thought about forever but never really thought would come to fruition...There are not many opportunities to acquire something like this in life so I said what the h3!!. Auctioned off a few months ago and I just happened to win.. I really did not think I was in the mix as I knew what a few of these MC52s had gone for in the past few years. In any case, the rifle finally came to its new home and needless to say I am ecstatic. As far as shooting this weapon, its darn tempting. the scope dials are phenomenal and Optics are great. I would love to go out to the anniston games with it but.......:ugh:
Kip Feiler's old gun bought from Larry Smith at OGCA I believe. Lost track of it after Kip died. Glad to see it found a good home, major congrats!
You know shooting this thing is like a crack pipe... You can't shoot it one time..once you hit it, you can't quit it. It's like buying your first rifle... Hooked for life. I suppose for now I will keep it as the queen bee in my hive. Just think when some lucky guy/girl has it 100 years from now and is contemplating the same question. I personally don't need to shoot it as I have plenty other nice weapons to shoot. By the way, since some folks on this thread knew the previous owners; do you know if they/ he/ she has shot it ?? I'm sure the guys at quantico didn't take it out for Sunday afternoon range day ...maybe they did, sure would be tempting. Thank you guys for the comments. Andy
In a 100 years they might know if its safe to shoot. I would shoot it if it were mine, it already has been but easy for me to say I didn't pay for it but I would have to know what it would do for it to mean anything. just sayin
If you are leaving it to a museum when you are gone, don't shoot it. If not, shoot it because the next guy will. ?
Just my opinion.

It really up to you to shoot your M1C or not ! you could always shoot another M1C too
I have some rifles that I just do not care to shoot: early nice low numbered 1903 rifles and early gas trap M1 rifles. Some do shoot their original gas trap rifles with a firing pin change and possibly a spring change but there are a lot of repro gas traps around to shoot
If I were a rifle,I would be overcome with sadness from being prevented from doing what I was made to do.I would want to be shot :D
It was made to be shot, and it most-likely has been shot. I wouldn't abuse the rifle, but I would run it through its paces.
Would you let an AC Cobra sit in your garage and not drive it??? Of course you wouldn't. Well........I wouldn't!
I agree with RCS. Would you mail a letter with your rare 1923 Airmail stamp? Attachment 74357
I don't know about you, but I don't give away my old rifles after I have fired them once. Your analogy is a bit off.
Yep, no analogy is perfect. The point is that stamps are intended to mail letters, but it's not a good idea on some... go to the post office and buy a shooter for that purpose :)
Man this is one of the only Marine items I'm missing from my collection. I want a documented Marine M1C rifle. I have the Kollmorgen scope and mount, but it's on a 1999 CMP M1C rifle. I keep on hoping that I will run across the serials of the Marine M1C's in the archives, but so far I haven't. They got them pretty late and the Archives basically stops when they first started to come in. Hopefully someday though those documents will be released for public view. I would love to figure out that equation.
I hear you though on not shooting them. I have a real 1903 Unertl Sniper and people make fun of me all the time for not shooting it. But all it takes is one faulty round and it's gone.
Life is short. Shoot and enjoy it. With proper care and maintenance, you'll never hurt it.

Bob............can you shoot stamps, or does the USPS now sell guns??? ;)
I was beginning to feel like a loner on my no shoot rifles list. Glad I'm not the only frigid one here. I did break down and shoot my no 4 T's to see which one was most accurate and the plan will be to use it in the vintage games in Anniston. That's a big step for me. Baby steps! One day..... Possibly, I'll shoot the mc-52. It's better than a "no".
Your No.4Ts were by far the finest sniper rifles fielded during WWII. Don't be surprised if you WIN that vintage sniper match. Best of luck to you.
I love the no4T. It's like a chesterfield leather sofa. Looks, feels, and smells good!!
There's nothing like the smell of raw linseed oil and XG279 British rifle grease!
I was always partial to Hoppe's #9, I wanted my wife to put some behind her ears as perfume but she wouldn't :(
So you go to a party and the host puts out a big bowl of M&Ms, maybe a thousand... but he tells you two have been laced with cyanide. Do you grab a handful?
Many years ago our son was nipped by his pet mouse which subsequently died. We took the mouse to the county and asked that it be tested for rabies. They were reluctant, said there hadn't been a case of mouse rabies in 25 years. We insisted, because we did not want to read a headline "FIRST CASE OF MOUSE RABIES IN 25 YEARS!" There are some circumstances where you don't take any chance, no matter how remote the possibility. A squib round, even in factory ammo, can plug the barrel without your knowing it, then the next round can blow it. The tip of the firing pin can break off and stick in the bolt, slam fire the next round out of battery. Yes, extremely remote... but not impossible. Does he really want to take any risk with a $15,000 rifle just so he can say he shot it? Maybe it's worth it, but I personally would not.
Whats not to shoot? Looks like a solid piece, check headspace and load her up and take her for drive. Looks a lot better than some I have shot.
