Pawn Shop find.
Found this at a local Pawn Shop about a month ago and forgot about it. Discovered it again while making my rounds Thursday. Went back Friday and worked up a trade with a KAHR CW.40 that I didn't need, for the rifle and 3 boxes of PPU ammo.
I don't think this thing has ever had a good cleaning. Grease/dust mixture on the metal. Hard grease on the bolt face. Gave the bore a good cleaning and it's sharp and bright. I'll strip it down later for a better cleaning.
It's not pretty, but it's in good shape and the numbers match on the bolt, receiver and mag.

rum runner: You may already know this but it's a BSA as indicated by the M47C visible on the left cheek. It's been through "Factory Thorough Repair" at some point, I guess at Fazakarley although there seems to be a Maltby mark on the bolt. From your description of the bore sounds like a good acquisition.

I take back the "not cleaned good" observation.
The gun has NEVER been cleaned.

That's a nice grab. Love the provenance on these old rifles.

Leave every trace of that grease on the rifle and never clean it off. It is put there by the UK Military as another layer of protection from the worldly elements. It is also a good barrier between the steel and the wood.

Yep I love that greased look under the wood. Means you can leave it as is and never have to strip down apart from basic post shooting cleaning.

Final report.
Cleaned up the trigger group, and bolt. (Sorry, Peter, that decades old "Her Majesty's grease/Dead Presidents dust " did not cut it)
Left the under wood as is.
Went to the Farm, and ran 20 rounds of PPU thru it.
Easily "killed" several gallon milk jugs, and a quart oil bottle at 75 yards...after I got to "know" the sights,
It's a keeper.
After having owned, and sold, 2 Longbranch 4's, ($75 each, back in the '90's) and a pre '68 Mail Order No.5 Jungle Rifle, my White Tail gun, and thinking these would always be cheap and plentiful, I now know better.
This one is in the vault, no doubt swapping stories with the various Mausers, Nagants, K31...and my "assault" rifles.
Now, on to the Arisaka search...:lol:
