Chilean Bubba Mauser

I am pretty sure I just bought a bubba'd 1895 Chilean Mauser for much more than it is worth. Can anyone help me figure out which model this used to be (Carbine, Rifle, Short, etc.)? I know that the safety latch is aftermarket (Buehle) and it looks like a very well done chop job. Does anyone know what model it used to me?

It is sort of a shame, as the blueing is amazing and all the serial numbers match.

If it were a carbine or a short rifle it would have indications of a sling swivel being mounted on the side of the butt stock. The type can actually be told by which side. Lacking those, it was probably a long rifle.

Looks like rifle sights. A shame as it WAS a very nice keeper. What did you give for it?

Unfortunately 375 USD. I will just enjoy shooting it and I doubt I could get a similar quality rifle new for anywhere near that price these days. I do like the "Mannlicher" style, but it is a shame that it got cut down. I was reading that back in the 60s, Interarms would cut them down before selling them to market them to hunters. I am also going to look into getting a front sight hood from a Yugo Mauser (like 15 bucks) and put that on the front over the brass sight they installed.

Yeah, you paid too much. Still if you enjoy it and it shoots well, not a biggie.

Yeah I did. I just figured it would be worth a bit more since there were many less than there were Yugo Mausers for example.

I'd love to see a full length photo if you get a chance. If nothing else, it looks interesting. And you have to realize, you're posting on a milsurp site where sporterized things are not valued much. 7mm is a great caliber and it might be a great sporter rifle.

You did overpay a bit, that being said it still looks like it would be a fine hunting rifle (I certainly do like the lines more than pretty much all the modern hunting guns).

It is a very nice looking rifle and has a look that some will pay for. I think you probably did OK. You won't sell it to a collector but a fellow shooter or hunter perhaps.

At least it's nice and clean looking...

An "extremely rare and valuable example" you have there. We've all probably spent a bit much for certain items in our collection. I have.

My first Milsurp I bought as a young man and the Internet didn't exist was a sweet British No1 Mk3 Lee Enfield. Gorgeous shiny stock. Oh, I could just feel the WW1 history flowing though my hands. Nope, it's a 1948 Ishapore. The stock was sanded to within an inch of it's life and Bubba Goo liberally applied.....
Still have it except the Goo has been removed. Your right, we ALL have done it.

When I was about 19, I bought an AR 180. It was later identified as an original Costa Mesa select fire. I paid $500 CDN (1976)... I later traded it for a Japanese navy Katana, which I later traded for a Scottish undressed Basket sword worth maybe $800. I later was talked into trading that for a US cavalry blade of about 1860 model, worth considerably less. When I found out how badly I'd done, I sold the saber for $100 CDN to get it away from me... That is but one story...

That's some pain there BAR. At least you didn't go chopping trees and empty beer cans in half like most 19yr olds would do with a Katana.......Right? :lol:

At least you guys wasted your money on something cool. I supported the wife's beanie baby addiction for two years. She had to have the Diana Princess bear at $200. Now available at every flea market for $2.
