I've got a .22 FAL built with an Anshutz barrel and H&K conversion kit - it will occasionally fire double rather than single shots. I'm assuming that the bolt doesn't come far enough to fully re-cock the hammer.
I was just wondering if anyone else has the same issue?
I've never worried too much about it as the rifle doesn't do much apart from an occasional plinking session...
Try a better grade of ammo and some oil. Cheap ammo will do various things...though to be fair, the FA is lots of fun.
I agree with Jim. Ammo is the culprit. Are you using high or standard velocity?
Tried all sorts- from Eley through to Mini-Mag... it does it with all types tried so far.
It's just not giving the working parts enough of a push back...is there some sort of restriction or burr...or something? The springs in these aren't too rigid, would the return spring be too tough? Tried Yellow Jackets and CCI Stingers yet?
Nothing obvious that I can feel. Probably just need strip it down to polish everything by the sounds of things... I was just wondering if it was just a trait of the .22 conversions.
Yes, I've tried Stingers.. (Also Velocitors - although they were particularly bad!)
Make sure that you polish the surface of the hammer where the sub-cal breech slides against it. Also that part of the breech that frictions against the hammer. These are hard bearing/friction surfaces.

Make sure the bolt group is well lubricated with no restrictions for its full length of travel and check for any slight damage. Also check and clean the receiver bolt track.

Just noticed you have a inch pattern safety in your metric lower, I don't think it would, but could it possibly cause an issue chaps?
I would have thought it would be quite loose in conjunction with metric trigger assembly?
Fit & function of the inch safety is ok with the metric lower. The FAL Files references say metric fits inch ok, and inch fits metric with modification - so I guess it's been modified in the past. Have to say that 99% of the time I have the fixed stock on, as the para stock is just uncomfortable!
Looks really good with the para stock though, oh how we suffer for fashion!

Yes - the para stock is certainly good for looking at!!
No idea who made it originally. I bought it about 5 years ago from a dealer - and he'd had it in his own collection, but I don't know how long for. When I got it, it had the para stock and Indian wooden handguards (they were rough!) The fixed stock lower was from the last Imbel FAL bits that Sabre Defence had.
I had one of Anglo Custom Rifles straight pull .308's and an unfired H&K conversion kit - but I couldn't bring myself to use the kit, so finding this .22 was perfect!
I did a straight swap for a .22 1927A3 Thompson, which he's sold on. ITL are currently selling the Thompson on their website for £2,500. (I think I paid £600 for it...) http://www.itlshootingsupplies.co.uk/page11.htm
It was great to look at, but wouldn't get through more than a few rounds at a time before having a stoppage of some kind...
Having said that, RWS Engineering have an Imbel .22 FAL up for £3,995 so I think I've done ok!
You certainly did Nick, your setup looks superb and it will only go up in value.
We will have to meet up and shoot our .22 L1's/ Fal's at some point. Well done on procuring such an individual and very interesting example.
