Help! Mauser-Vergueiro bolt + safety stuck

Hello!

Since I'm new on this forum and couldn't find the thread I was looking for, I decide to make my own. My apologise if there is a thread about this already and my English.

A few days ago I inherited a Mauser-Vergeuiro from a family member. I don't know the story behind it, but the first thing I tried is the bolt itself. It does nothing. Even the safety doesn't move.

Now I'm wondering if there are any tips or tricks to make it all move again?
Same for the 2 screws near the trigger, it's just... stuck as hell!

Which model of Mauser-Vergueiro is it, a 1904 or a 1904/39? The Trigger Guard screws on the M1904/39 have capture screws as well which can be tight on there (one trick can be moving the main screw slightly to take the pressure off the capture screw which then allows you to remove them). Oil it if you need to as that will help.

I'm totally new to guns, but I already love it, as I'm a World War ''fan''
On the side it says ''6,5 MOD. 1904''
It's not like I've taken the bolt apart, which I won't since I've read that's quite difficult to be put back togheter. I actually can't since I just can not move it.

EDIT: I did manage to get the wood ontop off, as shown in the picture.

Here is a link to a thread I made earlier showing the difference between the two models (the side marking doesn't actually tell you oddly enough). The reason I ask is because it will effect how the trigger guard is arranged (whether or not there is a capture screw or not, which might be leading to your problem). I've the ''updated'' one, with the shortened barrel. Saw your pictures, I can say that I've the M1904/39 trigger guard with the capture screws added.
I just got one out of two out, where I used two screwdrivers. Struggling with the last one.

So based on the photo it looks like your bolt might be misassembled. On both of my bolts the firing pin protrudes outside to the striker slightly whereas yours doesn't appear to. Are you able to remove the bolt at all, because I think you need to reassemble it properly to get it to function.

There's absolutely no movement in the savety or the bolt itself. Only that one ''button'' on the left, infront of the safety, which you hold to get the bolt out is functioning.
I did manage to get all the screws out near the trigger/ammo drop-out (Don't know the names for it), can't get it out though.

That one ''button'' near the trigger, to let the ammo fall out, doesn't move either. No signs of welding or glue and it bothers me..

It bothers me, too. "Absolutely no movement" is peculiar, as even a misassembled bolt assembly should have some slight degree of movement. If you can't even wiggle the bolt handle up and down a bit, that strongly suggests some kind of adhesive or mechanical lock (weld, screw...)

I think it is time to get the barrelled system out of the stock, so that you can see if somebody has done something wierd to the bottom of the receiver in a misguided attempt to make the gun "safe". Like a) inserting a grub screw, or b) glueing it up with Loctite or cyan-acrylate "super-glue".

a) will be obvious.
b) will require CAREFULLY applied heat, such as hot air from a hairdrier. Empirically: get the system too hot to touch, but NOT so hot that the metal starts to change colour!

But before all: for safety's sake TAKE A LOOK DOWN THE BARREL. maybe there's something nasty down there!

So Patrick has some good suggestions. Other suggestions I have is to try cocking the cocking piece (pulling back on it should cock it) and possibly loosen the bolt up. OIL the thing, everywhere, after you have removed the stock, this will help loosen things up. Hopefully this is just a case of somehow misassembling the bolt and the rifle being stuck together from lack of maintenance rather than a deactivation attempt.

What I would do is very carefully insert a cleaning rod down the barrel till it stops, mark the rod then when you remove the rod hold it on top of the barrel with the mark level with the muzzle and see whether the rod went all the way to the app position of the bolt face if it shows its about 2" shy of the bolt face then there is something very sinister lurking in the chamber.
If the rod extends to the bolt face then all is well , I do try not to look down barrels after seeing that guy with the pump action 12 gauge shotty on youtube it reinforces my view on it.

Thank you for your reply. I'd like to note that this rifle has been made unusable. The top of the barrel has lead in it, not all the way down though. This is no issue to me as I don't intent to shoot this gun.
The thing that bothers me is that the bolt, the safety and the ammo button do not work. I only want this to operate for the feelings, the sound.
For now, it's just looking at a bird without wings.

Someone really went to town with that deactivation. At this point I recommend you leave your bolt alone. Depending on your countries laws it could be illegal to mess with it as it is deactivated. Generally every country has different deactivation standards, however most seem to be leaning towards nothing moving and simply being a welded solid chunk of metal (which is likely the case with yours). Altering a deactivation can result in jail time depending on your country and I wouldn't want to see that happen.

As a side note if you ever come to Canada (specifically Sault Ste. Marie) I will let you take a go with my Mauser-Vergueiro's.

I couldn't get my mind to the fact it could be glued or welded because it doesn't show anything like it. I just read that it WAS a part of the law, so I guess it is welded from the bottom of the bolt? Too bad..

There's no way imma get that bolt out if it's welded, hm.. Can't get to it from below either since the ammo spring won't open.

I would think taking the screws out would free the whole trigger mech, but by the looks it's a moot point anyway. Besides, if the law states...?

Rendered rifles here in Western Aust it is required apart from the barrel being closed and holes along it and into the chamber the bolt has to have the firing pin cut and the F.P hole closed also to be fully welded underneath closed into the action.

It should indeed, but it doesn't. All I can do is wiggle it, so I asume it's welded or something..
I'm not leaving this house with the gun so I don't bother the law. To me it's save enough since there are no bullets or children around, plus the barrel is filled with lead.

could be a cartridge ''stuck'' in chamber........ if you can not find information from family members,. ask a friend who is familiar with rifles or you may need a gunsmith...$$$$$

Someone may have tried to close bolt on wrong cartridge and forced it to close..:bash::..
handle it like it is LOADED until you get the bolt out.

Just saw the photos......too bad,they are great rifles......the parts like the stock,sights and even the various screws are worth money to people who still shoot the P.M. They are still used in SOUTH AFRICA by quite a few shooters...
