No5 Jungle Carbine

Could this No5 be a fake that was converted from something else??? All the serials match but its missing the "o" from "ROF(f)". Also can someone tell me what date this firearm was made? I have very little knowledge about Lee's. The last two numbers of the serial were very professionally eddited out ;) Thanks in advance guys :)

Those photos are no help to identify if it is genuine or fake, Do a search here (NO 5 Lightening Cuts) and check that it has the correct lightening cuts that is the only way to be sure. Does have a beautiful wood set.

Looks OK to me is the rear sight graduated to 800 yards?
Date of manufacture is January 1946

Yes, rear sight goes up to 800 :)

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it, depends if someone wants one or not. With a D serial number should be February 1944.

The serial begins with a U its hard to see because of the flash

Faz made them in 43 and 44 although Skennerton agrees some were made after but no dates other than the 43 and 44 in his book, he does intimate that later ones were AF, but with all things Lee Enfield never say never.

Check on here for the lightening cuts to look for and that will tell you if genuine or not again as for value so many factors quality of barrel all matching parts etc.

The cuts have been made :) so its a real carbine! All matching and barrel is in good (7.5/10) condition

You might want to try the Google CSE custom search engine located in the top right corner where it says "Search Milsurps.Com"

For example, in your case, type in the words fake jungle carbine and see what happens .. ;)

I only had a quick look and there's hundreds of threads.

Relax! The "handwriting" looks genuine enough. The space for the "O" is there. I think someone just made a mistake with the stencil and missed out the "O". Otherwise, it seems to be a very nice example of a No. 5.

The electropencil markings from the Fazakerly factory are sometimes very light.

I agree with Aussie48 the worth is what someone is willing to pay and you have to be realistic about the price based on allot of research on the prices. Here in Aus there are some ridiculous prices being asked for bog standard MkIII's or 4's and are they selling for that nope. Just because a person may pay say $900 for a No.5 does not mean anything it may be worth more or less depending on A) the buyers pocket depth combined with their desire to own such a piece B) the condition of the rifle.

Pretty much all just Greek to me.

Often something gives you a feel for fakerism, was it purely the O missing that gave you it on this occasion, or something else?
It looks like a hard earned NO5 that has been through the jungles and authentic to me.;)
Price £650 ish if the bore is sound IMHO

I've seen a few No5's and that is as real as it is possible to get.

I would think that a "faker" would be careful not to make such an obvious mistake.

On a light hearted but true point, everyone with something made in Liverpool, like your rifle, ought to accept at the outset that there will be something wrong - or if not 'wrong', then not quite right! It's like having a Speke made Triumph TR7 sports car or powerful Triumph Dolomite Sprint saloon. There will be something wrong. £650 is a little over $1000 in our deflated Canadian dollars. You will get no where near that here.

$500 - $650 is the going rate in Canada, as long as the bore is good.

Just sold a flat new Mk 5 ROF 1946 for $1200 Cdn and had several fighting over it, I kept a 1947 ROF for myself, same condition

I think £650 is roughly what they are going for here in the UK, and have stayed somewhat consistant over the last few years, but they are like everything starting to become collectable and therefore rare.
They only seem to surface as owners drop off their respective purches!!:yikes:

They must be exceptionally nice rifles. I watch for these all the time and sometimes see them listed at $700 -$800. They don`t seem to move until the price drops to $650 or so.

I just picked up a super nice matching 45 BSA with nice clear markings and an excellent bore for $550.

In December I sold a pretty nice matching, with 8/10 bore, small crack at front of forend and Ishy screw for $375. I originally had $425 on it.

That's about what you would pay her in NZ as well for one in top condition. There are very few NZ marked ones here. Most are UK imports with few markings on them

No. It's a No. 5 not a Mk 5...the barrel is correct.
