NR? What is that?
Sorry. Non-restricted
I guess they have to be 18" up there?
Double post
More than 18.5". I think criterion makes 18.75". You can own a regular barrelled m1carbine but you can ONLY take it to a range.
There are 19 " barrels available, they are few and far between. We have a couple members here and if you look over on CGN you'll find more barrels available and a man that assembles them regularly, Gunsdora...you'll find him here too. Not sure if Criterion offers 19" barrels. You won't find 18 1/2" barrels. Search for availability of 19" carbine barrels online and then a dealer to import it for you.
For the rest of you looking on, firearms here are either registered or they aren't. Either restricted or not. Many of ours are named specially so it doesn't matter if your AR has a four inch Walther barrel or a twenty two inch match barrel and no gas system. It's restricted and needs registering...there's so much more.
Tradeexcanada.com has this: New M1 Carbine Barrel, Non-restricted Length, 470mm, made by Citadel to GI Specs. New in the white. $269.00 You'll find it in the "Actions, Barrels, Gun Parts" menu of their product listing.
They come short chambered approx. .010", so you'll need someone to finish ream the chamber to the correct length before use. The barrel is "in the white" which means it needs to be finished by parkerizing, or blueing before installation.
These NR barrels seem to be the only ones available at the moment, so best to grab one soon.
Here they are... New M1 Carbine Barrel, Non-restricted Lenght | tradeexcanada
Great. Thabks guys!!! I will head to that site for a look!!!
M1 carbine Criterion barrels sold by Tradeex Canada are very good quality, and appear to be MIL-SPEC, except they are longer by 0.75". However, they are not parkerized, have no gas piston or nut, and, as mentioned, have to be reamed to correct headspace. Your carbine would need to be de-registered also to get it out of the RCMP Restricted classification. These longer barrels should be professionally installed, if more info required, please send a PM to me here or on GCN.
Bird Blaster,
Welcome to the carbine forum. As you have already found, the members here are friendly and helpful.
If you get your barrel, do a follow up with pictures.
Again, welcom and enjoy.
Bird Blaster You got to watch manteo97 if he don't like you he will put your long barrel on your receiver back words  just kidding he does a great job. Hi Ted .
Between the two of you I know it'll get done. Handy to have you both here as well as over there.
Great info here!
I found a criterion barrel and ordered that.
Having never done it, what is the de-registration process?
You'll have to have the gun set up and finished. Then you need to have a verifyer examine it and do the paperwork on it, send it in to the RCMP. I had to surrender the barrels of anything I was taking off the restricted list or prohibited list...your mileage may vary and you may choose to argue about it. You likely won't receive any paperwork to show you're de-registered, I didn't. Ask around and you'll find a verifier. Your local gun club or gun shop may know one. I know about five around here...
