My Best Gun Show Ever

I have not had much luck at gun shows lately but today was awesome. Took my son in law to his first ever at Oaks, came home with a NATO era German Paratrooper Gravity knife, a Swedish ammo bandolier along with two sets of the suspenders and small straps that the ski troops used. An Enfield No2 MK1* in great shape with a like new canvas holster and lanyard, a 50 cal cartridge, a box of 38 S&W ammunition, three Garand clips and finally, an all matching (my first) with mum (my first) Type 99 Nagoya Arisaka. Mike helped me out big time with the transfers and helped my son in law with at new safety button for a Mossberg 500 my son in law purchased.

I saw those but passed because the blades where trashed on every one I looked at, I got tired of looking. I saw that Enfield too, glad you got it, real nice. Not a lot in the way of Milsurps nowadays except overpriced Mosins. No MREs either? bummer, they make a good $5 lunch.

Did pick up a nice Romanian Carpati M95 "PPK clone" with two mags off Mike. Had a nice time hanging out with him and his daughter for a bit. One of these days we'll bump into each other.

I'll probably post photos in a few days. I have been miserable sick for over a week now and the gun show wiped me out physically. I was the second longest wait time for background check Mike and his daughter had today, 25 minutes.

They were trashed but I was persistent and found one that just had a dented edge in one spot that I figured I could clean up and I did succeed. I couldn't figure out how they did that but they were all pretty much the same. It didn't look like a grinding wheel unless it was really course. It almost looked gouged. I almost gave up also, but then she told me there were better ones on the other side for $5 more. I went to look at them and thought they were worse than the ones for $35. So I kept the best one I found. No gouges or scratches, got most of the dent out and then sharpened it.

I'd love the Arisaka too........

Obviously a little flu can't stop a gunshow trip & your instincts paid off.

I went there Saturday. Had been real sick all week and was in a bit of a daze the whole show as I didn't want to be there but badly needed an AR tool to get a job done that weekend (remove a stuck gas tube). Looked at a few C&Rs for fun but don't recall seeing the Arisaka at Mike's, badly wanted one of those Savage pistols he had (think it was him?) but just couldn't spare it that day. Didn't get the tool but got an AK Waffle mag from the guy who always has Bakelites and AK mags, just wish I had gotten a Russian slabside the last time I saw him as he was out this time. Also got a range bag because I needed one, $30 was comparable to the one I was going to buy, and I didn't need to pay shipping.

This "sickness" is possibly the most bizarre one I've ever had and it seems like most everyone it getting it. I have gone through uncontrollable chills, massive headaches and total body pain. I will feel fine for part of the day (felt good at the gun show) and miserable the rest. I have kept working for the most part but took Friday off because I had an all day coaching stint on Saturday (Three of my kids won All Star honors and the same three placed for awards in Individuals, I'm a high school rifle coach) By the time I get home, I feel like I'm about ready to die. Two out of the six other coaches had it too. This afternoon was particularly bad.

I didn't get the Arisaka off Mike. It came from the same pair of guys I got the Enfield off of. Mike did the transfer of the pistol for me. I didn't even buy both at the same time which was kind of dumb but I fell for the revolver and forgot about the rifle until I was almost walking out the door. Mike did have a nice one with a bayonet but it had a ground mum. The guy had maybe 6-8 Arisakas, most in pretty nice shape with mums. This one was the best price as it was missing a screw and the cleaning rod and rod locking button, things I had on hand at home. I didn't even think to look at the serials at the show. Just looked at overall condition. It was also the last thing I checked when I got home. Spent a couple hours researching the Enfield and the bandolier. Very surprised it matched.

You got lucky. That might have been the smallest Oaks show yet, with competition from the AgHall and Chantilly shows.

I lost all my Japanese rifle books. Misplaced somewhere in the house. Turns out the Nagoya is a 0 series with no mark. It is missing it's monopod and dust cover. Metal is very clean, only wear is on the barrel and the bayonet lug. Still not up to photos. Can't shake this.

Feeling a little better and decided to take some photos with my new phone. It works great for normal photos but I'm not thinking it does such a great job with close up stuff. They aren't bad but it washed out a lot of the bluing and the markings. This is my booty from the show. The revolver, Arisaka and knife will have more photos in their respective forums.

Heck you guys got over easy I am just getting finished with paper work an figuring out what we bought, Madaline bought the jap an bayo off a guy Saturday night right before show closed it cleaned up real nice. Bore an action are packed in cosmo.Enfield No4 is is a work in progress. Sold the 870 16ga an the springfield in 270 to a friend for his grandson. Not alot of stuff came my way for parts this weekend. that show was a very good show both for buying an selling for all. Any dealer who didnt make money is stupid or a lair. Any member here who hits a show were I am at just introduce yourself. Always like to talk an will always make you a deal.
