Bit OTT for my wallet cannot figure a T with all the fruit etc Lot 208 for $5600.oo and an Lot 2010 L42 for $4700.oo when the other T's went for 8+k also that 1889 wow is that what they are getting!
I followed the auction and was signed in to bid but never pulled the trigger. I have not bought a firearm stateside in the last 20 yrs. People tell me now you have to basically double the hammer price by the time you factor in the exchange rate, buyers premium, shipping, import fees etc. That factored in I did not buy, that's not to say that a strong temptation existed though. Bob had some real neat stuff and I hear that Bob's favorites to shoot were..... his enfields.
I actually thought some of it would go a lot higher than it did. There were some bargains in there.
Bob had some kit that was out of this world and only a small % of it has surfaced....so far.
There were some bargains if you were in the crowd but for us poor punters out of country or internet bidding the actual price would be 20 to 50% above hammer price.
Then you also have shipping, brokerage, import duty and taxes if out of country.
The SMLE "sniper" went way too high for it's only redeeming qualities being a re numbered set of long branch rings and a brit no 32 scope.
The L42 with the REL l1a1 scope was definitely a bargain...
I bid on the Envoy and bowed out at $2300. Add the buyer's premium and the shipping cost and you approach the $2750 mark pretty quickly. Some really neat items in the auction. I had trouble focusing on any one item. So many choices. I was very impressed at the prices realized.
I gave 2022 a go, but it started high, and with the 17-1/2% sellers fee, it got out of sight for me before I could speak. I did get the high serial Savage. Not my primary interest, but still a No. 4.
I was in on the Envoy, but it got past $1,400.00 quick. I passed on that. There were two other lots that interested me, but I was out before I was in.

I'd gather not a lot of folks know about the "Conv" series of pre-L-42 work. I've got one, and glad I was able to get it when I did. I think they are undiscovered gems.

It was quite a trip. 2100 miles round trip with a bit of rain/snow in Toledo but very nice weather the rest of the trip. People seemed far more pleasant this trip than I remember from past trips.
It was nice to see, handle and compare the Faris items. I was surprised that the auction was mostly done by phone and computer. They only provided seating for thirty or so bidders. No free food at Poulins but Julia had doughnut derivatives. I got a few crumbs to have made the trip well worth while. In general the prices were staggering.
I was a registered bidder and was hoping to get a fair shot at the long branch light weight but that went quickly down the tubes when the opening bid went $12,500 us and it sold quickly for $22,000us. Auction estimated high price was 10,000us....but what do they know eh!!!! So I took my frustrations out on Gun Broker for the Chuck Karwin L42a1......only accessories was scope caps, scope tin and non-serialized chest...bid a respectable $6000us.....in the last few minutes it went for $9,325us!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the time it's landed in Canada you can tack on at least 40%!!
The Americans have a lot deeper pockets than I do.......recently at the Poulins auction a FG-42 magazine went for $5000something us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The deact FG-42 went for $170,000 us plus 20% buyers premium!!!! Enough said!!!
Did anyone here get that Lee Metford Trials carbine?
To not only talk on the Faris items at Poulins I may also add the results of the items at James D. Julia Auctions:

I just felt like throwing this in for discussion. I bid on a few items, but did not win any. I prebid on two lots. The first was a Winchester M1 Garand for $2200.00 and it went to someone on the floor for $2200.00. The other was for a parts lot that had M1 Garand stocks and other parts. (I wanted the G43 locking lugs among other things) I prebid $1100.00 for that one and it went to someone on the floor for $1100.00. I also bid on another spur of the moment rifle when it looked to be going for a low ball price, but then it was chased up to more than it was worth. I was really upset about loosing to someone bidding after me that didn't bid more than I did. But when I called to ask how that could happen they explained that even though I was an internet prebid someone on the floor actually bids for me and they were slow on the draw. So, to the auctioneer, the person on the floor bid first. Oh well... I also consider the fact the auction house knows my maximum prebid before the auction even starts. It just doesn't sit well with me. I still am simmering over it. My internet connection is so slow and undependable that I doubt I could have increased my bidding before the hammer dropped even though I was watching it live. I was going to bid on a Savage No 4 US Property marked, as that's one I'm missing in my collection, coming up later in the auction but was so disgusted I closed out. It looked like somebody got a good deal on it.
The one thing that bothers me is when auction houses start the bidding at my maximum bid. When they say $1500 to $2000 as a estimate and I put a $3000 bid in and that is what it starts off at.
If a member purchased lot 2004 I would be greatly interested in hearing from you as your mismatched chest is a match for my Long Branch T
I bid with Poulun's as my representative. I won one auction out of two and they did NOT start bidding at my highest level. :-) I was very pleased with their services. I was able to repatriate a rare Canadian sniper rifle. One can save money by reading their rules carefully (though these are confusing, so I phoned and got clarification from the nice staff in the office) paying by bank draft saves one money. The rifle was shipped very well wrapped and perhaps oddly, the rifle, scope, magazine and bolt were each wrapped separately but sent in the same gun case.
Apologies if this is a repeat but just a heads up for anyone who may be interested. I see more of the Faris collection is coming up at Poulins end of this month.
Some 4T's including a Long Branch one with a Lyman Alaskan, couple of L42A1s, SMLE with trench warfare stock, etc.
Wishing I wasn't in the U.K...........

Has someone here been successful in the auction? It appears that I was :)
Edit: sorry, some errors in my listing above .. like lot #2163 contains also a second rifle, as does the Ross M1910 (there were two of them sold). Just be careful and check it double if you are using my numbers.
