Webley Expert's I Have A Question

Ok so I have found a few Webley Mk V's that for some reason just don't seem right.

From what I have researched the Mk V came with birds head grip and 5 inch barrel. However, both of these have 4 inch barrel's and a regular grip which is identical to the Mk VI. One is dated 1918 and the other is 1917. The Mk VI was introduced in 1915 so did Webley continue to make the Mk V? Is this one of those things where during war time they were just thrown together? Both by the way have matching serial numbers on the frame, barrel and cylinder.

One is shaved for 45acp and the other is not. I don't want to jump if something is wrong.

I should think that one is for the US consumption market. Many would rather use standard ammo and clips easily available in the local market. I would...That could have been done any time...

That does look correct alround from what I can see, could I have a closeup shot of the small print below the cylinder, the patent date?

My thing was I cannot find reference to where they were made with the square butt vice birds head grip.

Is this not two revolvers put together? Upper and lower? How is it marked "V" and "VI"?

Jim that's what I was thinking but the serial numbers all match. :dunno:

The frame clearly shows it to be a Mk VI. So it has to be a put together. Can we see photos of the serial numbers on frame, barrel and cylinder?

Unfortunately the only photo with a serial number is the frame. No photos of the barrel and cylinder numbers are provided but seller listed matching numbers and I also spoke to him on phone. So was there any refurb process that would have matched these together, serial numbered them?

Not a process...just someone doing it. I seriously doubt the military did that...? You'd need to see the number font...

100% put together, the barrel is '15 proofed and the frame 1918 dated. The barrel says MkV the frame says MkVI, Webley would never let a gun out with misleading marks like that.

So it's none of this cow poop that well the Brits needs weapons after Dunkirk and they just put them together? LOL I pretty much knew that but want to run it by you guys.

I wouldn't mind it as a shooter though. Except for top break revolvers not being the strongest, that might be OK in .45 ACP...

Problem is Jim he is not asking a "shooter" price for it.

Have to agree with Brit Plumber, however, if you get it for around £300 you'll be quids in regardless. If you want it to collect with don't bother IMHO!!

Yes certainly have with Brownings, but not with the grip safety on the Colt.
I often found that innovative introduction very clever, until crap gets in around the safety groove then you have real issues

That is a neat video. Like the training with tracer ammo.

Easily deactivated by removing the finger protrusion on the inside of the grip safety. Then it doesn't hinder anything. Believe me Gil, you aren't the first one to grouse about it.

For what it's worth, while a Mk VI with a Mk V upper probably isn't factory original, guns in the other configuration (Mk IV/V frames with Mk V/VI uppers) can be - Webley was assembling guns from available parts for years, so such configurations - with matching serial numbers and markings - aren't unheard of.
