Wow $809 for. A Savage Lee-Enfield!

Holy Bat Caves Batman! And I thought I was taken to the shower at just under $400.00 for the Savage Lee-Enfield I just picked up.

Classic has just listed a batch of Lee-Enfield No4 Mk1 for British $799.99 + 25.00 for Long Branch and + 50.00 for Savage. Yikes!! And they don't even know how good the bores are!

They are the crap that was rusting at SAMCO. Worst part is they will sell out quickly. They likely paid Century $300 each tops

High prices seem to be the norm now. Was at a show last weekend and a pretty beat 50 LB was over a grand, nuts but what do I know.

Replacement mags and uncheck bores... you don't even know it they have matching numbers anywhere - you know the mag isn't $850 just blows me away

Even worse than these were the RC Mausers they sold for $900-$1,700

seam like so much of the samco stuff is starting to surface
that auction was the worst

Spare a thought for them here in Aus average for clunkers is between $650/900/Au but here's some of the other dreamers

Gezz Louise! Why so high? that's $516/$715 US and from what I've been looking at here in the US the past 3 months would be a really nice 4mk1

To bring this into prospective. Last year I purchased an early (1942) No.4 1* Savage with a mint bore, matching numbers. The cost? £250.
OK this is in the UK.

Not bad $407/Au at the current exchange rate.

I know this might not be nice to read, but I bought an unissued Fazackerly 1949 for R 500 last year and my brother a 1947 similar this year. Work it out @ 1$ = R13. For some reason they aren't valued as they should be and they are still here at that price if you shop around.

I refused to fit a new manufacture SMLE magazine someone brought here last week. It was absolute junk and didn't even look right. Are the Promags made by Triple K in Mexico? I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole. I still have lots of nos South African SMLE mags with used but excellent condition British follower spring assemblies installed but I'm out of spare original No.4 magazines and they seem to have dried up everywhere.

Us virtually being an island the market you might say is very limited and the cost to get one imported would be ridiculous with the postage & insurance probably costing more than the rifle hence why some dealers/sellers command a higher than usual price.
The No.4 mags come up every now and then but go pretty quick Brian I have about 3 spare as I hedged years ago so when my son eventually gets around to shooting the damn things he has enough spare bits & pieces except for the receivers though, it will be enough if used correctly to get through his life time which by then they would be very collectible in any guise.
Besides those that fix them now will be like me eventually toasted (I'm getting flashed & ashed) so there will be no one alive to repair them or at least do it with the care & attention that is needed by the ol' girls.

I took one on spec even though I knew better and sold it at a loss by mail. I tried a couple for a 96 Beretta and one wouldn't even go into the gun, the other wouldn't come out. Other's mileage may vary...I have no use for pro mag. The Lee Enfield mags don't even look like LE mags.

At the last show in August, I bought a realy nice No.4 for $300 and seen two Savage sell one $325 the other $375. The ones your talking about are not worth it and have aftermarket magazine in some.

I agree that is way over priced for a project rifle or parts gun

These are selling to the new smartphone/facebook crowd out there who dont seem to know how to use a proper computer. Craziness.

I am going through my collection, photographing each item and inventorying in preparation to sell a large chunk of it, and researching the prices is sort of crazy-making. Prices for things are all over the map, and don't make a ton of sense. I get why Long Branch Lee Enfields are fetching between 600-800, given the Canadian connection and such, but I don't quite understand the sudden uptick in pricing on the Schmidt-Rubin K31s. Mosin Nagants have kind of stalled, likely because there are so many of them, but SVT40s have really taken a jump. It would seem that the way prices are going it is soon not going to be possible for someone just starting out to actually afford any of the nice old milsurps.

The K-31's are well made being Swiss and accurate having shot against them in comp's pity about the charger clips the pressed paper/aluminium most guys just buy spare mags and dump them when reloading rather than the fragile clips which by the way are becoming collectible here in Aus $25-35/Ea.

I sent Classic an e-mail that they replied to on 9/6 and they said that all of the Savage No4's were sold.

That true Ed, last week they posted some 1903 Springfields and those too were over priced for what they were. But people bought them and that's where the problem is.

Depending on what they had I would have considered it, but not for a standard Savage, it would have had to been one I'm looking for.
