L1A2 Trilux sight Mounting plate

Hi there,

Wondering if any out there could help me out pls, I received a Trilux suit sight as a present from my son, as he's very pleased with himself, I don't want to part with it, BUT.... As I always like to use my stuff, and being in Canada, no FAL L1C2 SLR for me. So can anyone pls tell me if they have an after market sight mounting plate for sale pls. My other option is to make a mounting plate so that it fits correctly, and range and windage adjustment will work. Any suggestions appreciated, I'm wondering about fitting it to a SKS for a fun shooter or to a sporter type Lee Enfield No4 MK1/2 I have again for fun, any help appreciated.

There were Israeli bases for the M16 on the market but it's been many years ago. If you could get hold of the "T" part of the top cover mount for the SLR, it could probably be adapted to several weapon platforms.

I always remember Peter L's explanation of the SUIT sight system on the L1A1-SLR. It stands for "Shooter Usually In Trouble"!

Leapers once produced an Weaver/Rail Adapter for the SUIT designated MNT-TL 01. You can find them here and there sometimes.

Could be a better solution instead of welding something on your own if you can add a weaver rail on your SKS.

Yep I do have a few of the "T" parts of the mount, (and full mounts). I need to spend some time finishing them off,
I may have some photos in my albums on this site? I'm away from the workshop at the moment, I'll put some up when I get a moment.

Just be careful mounting any optics on an SKS.

They are VERY hard on scopes and mounts, because the action cycling with mil-spec ball is very HARD.

Given the material used in the construction of the SUIT, and that extended front "leg", you may find things distorting or even fracturing after extended firing.

Probably not a problem when issued to "operators" who could plonk a busted one on the Q-store front-counter and get a "new" one on signature; but for those without that "support system"...........?

Optics and mounts have come a LONG way since the mid 1960's.

To be honest, Bruce's comments apply to the SUIT on the SLR/L1A1. It was a combination that reminded me of Mickey Mouse wristwatches. Good to look at but not much good when it comes to telling the time..........

Absolutely correct, and absolute waste of time and IMHO a gimmick, that everyone who owns an SLR whether live firing or DEAC need to fit one to it!
As Bruce said, far too much recoil and inertia for the top cover with something fitted to it.

It's a shame that the good sight wasn't properly mounted onto the good rifle. It was such a crap interface. The prismatic optro-mechanicals of the SUIT sight gave us the tough and popular - and expensive I hasten to add - L11 and L12 AVIMO binoculars and the equally tough and popular SUSAT sight. But the SUIT mount was its achilles heel!

Its interesting that this mount issue wasn't picked up during trials, after all you only have to examine the mounting system to see the rather obvious weak points.

I suppose in its defense, you could say they certainly weren't intended to, or envisaged to still be in use 45 years on with civilian shooters!

Back in the early 1970's, the L1 was due for replacement by the early 1980's, so perhaps no one considered REME Armourers would be repairing the mounts 20 years after the SUIT entered service.

I've got a few mounts and SUIT's, the best one is an earlier L2A1, that one groups very well indeed.

I must admit, I never separate the sights and mounts, I don't know if that makes a difference to be honest, but I always think best left well alone.

As stated previously had them on trial on the border in NI light years ago, and other than trialing a new gucci piece of kit, and endeavouring to keep a decent group at Ballykinler ranges, thats about it...........not impressed.

Cheers Gill, one of mine groups very well, early L2A1, bench rested at 100 yds will group consistent 2" groups (odd flyer), I am yet to see one that shoots better!

I also have an L2A2 that appears to be in excellent original order, on a mint mount with a new spring and that struggles to print 4" groups on a good day...

The two 5mm machine screws help secure the "T" to the pressed steel mount before they are formed over to look like the rivets on the originals

Sorry this is so late in coming, but I would like to thank you all for taking the time to respond to my question. Sorry to have been so tardy, I've been quite ill for the last little while, and haven't felt up to tending to my projects. I know this is really late responding to this, but do you still have any of those mounts for sale. or a drawing even as it's a bit of a problem getting measurements off the sight, thanks for you're response.
