I seen the aftermath at our rifle club after a muzzle shooter shot his ram rod nearly 25yrds.
It's that time of year.
New guys with unfamiliar guns to them, loading up at the rear of the truck before daylight.
Stopped a 'City Hunter' with a pocket full of mixed size 12 ga slugs, while he tried filling his 2-3/4 chamber with 3" magnum slugs.
The old adage "we assumed" as it had been to the gunsmiths.
Well its the fault of the end user for not checking the bore or at least running a patch through the rifle before use as the Gunny may have left the bore with a good coating of oil which as we know liquids are not compressible.
Hopefully the young chap will have no lasting affects from this other than a few scars and a scary story mind you I bet he will have the jitters next time he gets behind a rifle.

Typical of these things though, we never get the correct story from the shooter as they don't want to appear foolish and probably know exactly what they did wrong. Then we sit here and parse it to death without input.

Could have been a myriad of things Jim, thing is I blame the shooters or end user of the fire arm its the old story "I thought the gun was unloaded, as his mate lies dead on the floor."
I was taught to shoot by my Uncle who was a crack roo shooter and brought his 303 from the army after he was discharged in WWII it was a Lee Metford when I was with him I saw how well the 303's could shoot, he trained me on his Lithgow Mod 12 .22 10 shot "Pea rifle" and drilled into me safety safety safety always look after your rifle then gave me 5 rounds for 5 rabbits and if you miss one well guess you will be hungry tonight at tea, he was a tough teacher but it paid dividends.
Its always the rifles fault not the shooter.

I am not into blowing up weapons but did have an A D with a 12 gauge in my bedroom once (17 y/o) putting a nice little hole in the ceiling and a 5" hole (No.4 shot) in the tin roof Mum & Dad were pretty pale when they come into the room me I was deaf as the muzzle was only about 4 " from my left ear.
I was checking reloaded ammo for fit, tight rounds were for the pattern board the others for trap shooting, got tired of safety on, 1 round in chamber release the bolt, pull bolt back eject round get next one repeat, so I loaded up the mag and put one in the chamber released the bolt and pumped the barrel to cycle the action things went well until..........! I had one come half out the ejection port and the other on the lifter so I lent over and pulled the round out of the port as soon as the bolt slammed shut the shotgun fired thank god I did not have my hand over the muzzle the safety was a cross lock on the trigger so it could not be depressed.
Anyway thats what happened hence why I probably have a bit less hearing on my left side. Never ever did that again. CINDERS lucky to be here.............

have see to many different firearms blown up. Some on purpose. used to show hunter ed classes what happens when a 20ga is put in front of a 12ga.Have had muzzle-loader brought in to fix.Problem will not go off. seam that they had multiple loads stacked on top of each other. Usually happens in the heat of tring to shoot game an cap/flint goes off but gun doesnt. They just drop another speed loader in. My opinion with out looking at said rifle is smokeless mixed with black. fastest way to blow one up
I hate to see someone get injured but I hate this kind of junk where it is engineered to be as modern and technical as possible while still just barely meeting the muzzle loader restrictions just so people can basically cheat and hunt during the black powder season with the same equipment and skills as before instead of just the normal season, making the former basically irrelevant anyway.
I don't know, it still loads from the muzzle.
As far as cheating,hunting could be the only sport where the other team doesn't know it's playing.
I think the main advantage to modern muzzleloader are the options for mounting telescopes and additional safety features like the push button safeties.
Mix in some smokeless or screw your load chain up though and those long shots get more difficult to repeat.
