Original or one of the recent repro?
L8A1 sling. Is it the wide nylon or narrow cotton version issued with the L96.
I wasn't aware there were repros LE. Can you elaborate?
Originals were one of those good ideas, good in theory but crap in practice. Soooooo expensive too! Just the clamp-keeper buckle came in at some colossal price too, made by the Irvine parachute people while the sling material was the same as the throw-away MILAN carrier sling. The best, no doubt about it were the narrower, approx 1"+ wide heavy cotton - almost webbing type that wouldn't slip and slide when wet. I think that they came on stream during the last days of the L42

Chosen man. What one do you mean? The earlier slippery wider nylon sling made by Remploy or the later narrower coarse cotton webbing one made by Syntex/Belgium. Both retained the same part number as I recall and both overlapped for a couple of years as one slowly replaced the other. Gil, I don't think that the better Syntex one was as slippery as the original one simply because it was deliberately made of a thick weave cotton JUST for that reason. The Syntex one also became a standardised/accepted NATO sniper sling although I don't know who else might have used it..., Belgian Army?

The one I have with the L42 is the original one with the name and part number stamped on it, also have the 1907 sling on the rifle. When wet it is certainly slippery. There must be two in circulation going by what Chosenman states, but I know you can't approach SYNTEX to buy one direct, real growlers!!
The strap must be fairly pricy even to AI I suspect.
I managed to get 100 of the Syntex slings back in 2005 or so when they produced the last big batch for the MoD. They are the exact same part number and the earlier batch did overlap for a while when the L42 was being withdrawn from service and replaced by the L96. They are different than the AW sling which is issued with the L117 and L118. Syntex were happy to do it for me as they were making them anyhow. I just paid them directly and they were shipped straight here to South Carolina. I'm down to a couple left and I also think they're a far superior sling to the heavy, British made, wide nylon variant. One resides on one of my L42's to this day.
There was a time I would have added that repro to my shooter in a heart beat.
