OMG what a frustrating project !!! Anyways its all finished and my 1917 BSA Canadian issued No1 Mk3 is now back to original shape from sporterized. I received a stock that was completely not right color after cleaning all the cosmoline off i have matched it perfectly with parts from all over the world. From all matching sporter to original shape here she is !!!

FINALLY FINISHED !!!

Good job.
Let that butt plate gain some well earned patina.
-
Hahahaha certainly will...had to freshen everything up then let the age sit in !!!
-
Beautiful! what did you refinish the stock with BLO?
-
Nothing as of yet...ive used BLO on it last few pieces but had to remove it with mineral spirits and had to stain all 4 wood pieces over with dark walnut stain then wiped down since the forend i ordered was so light after cleaning. The forend took about 3 coats or 4 cant remember letting each coat soak for 15 min then wiping off. So this time i think ill use a finishing wax and NOT BLO. wasn't really impressed with the BLO before. I used 6 coats of it and after it was dry still felt as if none were on.

mac2017: Looks great! The forend appears to have been previously used. What did you have to do (if anything) in the draws area to achieve a fit?
Ridolpho

Turned out fantastic! Well done!
Good job keeping the metal original too leaving the distressed look it should have after 100 years.
-
Thx all....Ridolpho i had to sand the little arms on the top wood back so they line up with the forend grooves for the clamp that holds wood together and then i had to unfortunately cut the square piece off the butt stock bolt so the forend would slide on. Its very easy to cut the bolt with a grinder and NO need to measure because the square part eventually turns into round and where the square part ends where it meets bolt cut it off and it will be exact fit for stock and sit flush on collar. I used dark Walnut minwax stain to achieve even color and blend.

Very nice work. You appear to have got a very nice looking patina to the parts and they look very good together. Something rarely achieved by most of us when "restoring", and I include myself in that.
-
She gorgeous Mac! The finish looks great!
-
Thx for viewing folks !!!
-
What we now need is a range report. See if it shoots as good as it looks. Nice restoration job.
