it came with this bayo also, the bayonet has no markings.. if i remember right, i picked this one up in the late 80s at a gun show
thanks in advance sir
Looks like a post war Israeli refurb.
The bayonet looks like it is for a FN49, SAFN rifle.
i just cleaned and saved my fn 49 last week, gunna dig it out and try that bayo on it.
and out of my k98s the one in 7.62 is my favorite. if only they could talk, huh boys!
thanks guys
I believe the Israeli's got the K98's from the Soviets of all places. Read something about it about two weeks ago.
It was not from the Soviets but they did come from Yugoslavia in the free market and were WW2 German made. These same rifles fought in the battles for Independence in 1948 against the whole Arab world. The Israelites were making ammo under a laundry mat when the British were in charge of Palestine. 9mm and 8x57 ammo were what they used against the Arabs. Later when aid from the US in 7.62x51 started arriving they changed barrels. These were later issued to different Kibbutz for protection against Arab attacks.
Israel sold many of those 7.62 Mausers in the early eighties. Bought one myself in 1983 for R 180 [= $168 in 1983]. Still a good shooter out to at least 300m. The action was made in 1944.
Nice rifles. They go for more than 500€ here.
is that P1 ?
I will PM you my address so you can send me this "Junk" for proper disposal.
Always glad to help!
;)
I would be happy to have that sort of "junk" in my collection...
Many 98K Mausers were shipped to Israel from the Czechs post WWII also. Mine is an SWP45 most likely sent directly from the factory in BRNO. I doubt it ever saw service with the German Army.
Love the history (and irony) in this thread.
Didn't the Israeli Air Force also use Messerschmitt Me 109?
Also Macchi and Reggiane, if I’m not wrong
Most of the rifles came out of Czechoslovakia, they actually bought an entire production line. They made some small parts but never made entire rifles. I think Israel bought Me109's and the Arabs flew Spitfires.
I did a count the other day. It appears that I have four Israeli 7.62's. One of them I have shot a few times this past year. I will dig the others out of the pile and crank some rounds out of them. I love old milsurps. The history drips off them. :)
Edit: one of them is an FN, made for the IDF.
Sort of............
Not actually Messerschmitt 109, they obtained 23 examples of the Avia S-199 from the Czechoslovak government in 1948. The S-199 was post war Czech built Me109, but using the Jumo V12 engine instead of the Daimler-Benz as the only Czech supply of DB engines left over from wartime German stores had all been destroyed in a post war warehouse explosion. The use of the inappropriate slower revving Jumo created nasty handling beast of an aircraft, and although used by the first Israeli AF fighter squadron in action mid way through 1948, its life in the IAF was very brief, with less than a handful being still serviceable by the end of 1948.
