Will you take the Pledge to Obama?

in today's wall Street Journal, by James Taranto:

President Obama's campaign Web site announces the "Organizing for America Pledge Project," which asks Americans to take the following pledge:

I support President Obama's bold approach for renewing America's economy.

I will ask friends, family, and neighbors to pledge their support for this plan.

We find this creepy. Is this partisan of us? That's not a rhetorical question; we'd appreciate it if anyone could point out (a) any examples of a Republican president, say during the past 30 years, asking people to take a similar "pledge," and (b) if it was George W. Bush, any examples of this column's defending it.

Nice! How long till we're required to have pictures of "Dear Leader" in our homes?

Is it for real or is it another of those internet jokes, like the same pledge for American military that has recently been debunked by snopes?

Heard a blurb about it yesterday on conservative talk radio. Supposedly it originated from Kollifornia so we know anything is possible over there.

Those fruitcakes would take a pledge to a tick if someone in Hollywood proposed it.

We have seen and heard this all before.

1. The oath of loyalty of public officials will be:

'I swear: I shall be loyal and obedient to Adolf Hitler, the Führer of the German Reich and people, respect the laws, and fulfill my official duties conscientiously, so help me God.'

2. The oath of loyalty of the soldiers of the armed forces will be:

'I swear by God this sacred oath: I will render unconditional obedience to Adolf Hitler, the Führer of the German Reich and people, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and will be ready as a brave soldier to risk my life at any time for this oath.'

The WSJ has upheld its journalistic standards while so many other papers have forgotten theirs. You can write to them for verification and I'm sure they'll respond.

Also, check Obama's web site; it's supposed to be there.

Sorry, bamster, I already took an oath, and it trumps yours. I can't recall all of the words, but it had something to do with protecting against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC.

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

That was in 1960 and as far as I know it's still good.

After my honorable discharge I was no longer required to obey the orders of the POTUS. That holds true to this day thankfully. Carl

Here is the precedent:

"I swear by God this sacred oath: I will render unconditional obedience to Adolf Hitler, the Führer of the German Reich and people, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and will be ready as a brave soldier to risk my life at any time for this oath."

It should be OK for a rerun, just change a couple of words.

"I swear by God this sacred oath: I will render unconditional obedience to Barack Hussein Obama, the Leader of the United States and its people, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and will be ready as a brave soldier to risk my life at any time for this oath."

See how easy it is. (Not one German officer or soldier refused to take the oath. Will American troops be any braver?)

I believe that I took the same oath, and no one told me that when I got out, it was no longer valid. And I also believe that it is up to me to determine just who the enemy is.

I took the same oath, and it's one of the few things from those days that is still operative. This country is about principles, NOT whatever fool happens to occupy a certain office.

SNOPE also says that bho is a resident and there is no basis for the question of if he is actually an illegal alien or not.

I doubt that they would allow anybody to swear any oath with the word God in it.

While Snopes is mostly accurate, keep in mind that it is run by a couple of flaming liberals, so one must be careful.

You can be pretty sure any pledge put out by the Left Wing Dems won't have "God" in it....

The oath I took became null an void when I was honorably discharged. I don't have to obey any member of the US armed forces anymore from the president on down. I can tell a four star general to shove it. Carl
