Help: Inventory / Gun Records Form

I was trying to convert all of my gun records from handwritten forms (that I made in the 80's) to more modern PDF forms with picture placeholders. I've looked all over for a good format to follow but didn't come up with much.

I built a form but would like input from everyone to make it better. The picture holders are optimally formatted for 1024x786 or 800x600

I don't even know what to call the form... It's fillable and saveable.

If anyone would like to help me with it I would appreciate it. I can provide the finished product to the forum so people like me looking for one don't struggle so much.

If you use Apple products take a gander at “Gun Log +P”. It tracks everything and anything relavate including ammo on hand, round count on each arm, etc.

"...to more modern PDF forms..." Scan 'em and convert to .pdf using CutePDF. That's a free download(CutePDF - Convert to PDF for free, Free PDF Utilities, Save PDF Forms, Edit PDF easily.). There's a form filler there too. The program becomes another 'printer' as far as Windows or any word processor or spreadsheet program is concerned.
1024 x 786 is too big.

I know nothing about computer forms and am rather unskilled in using them so I have no idea how to do things to make them work.

With that being said, I understand there are ways to do things. A super feature would be for each page entry like you have formatted to automatically fill in a list that you could sort by various categories. Photos would basically not be transferred to this list but the data would be. So if you wanted to find something quickly, you could open the list, find your item, click on it and it would open the page with photos. Changing data on one would automatically change the data on the other.

You can build forms easily with Excel or Word, size them accordingly, then "print" them to a PDF file by installing and using PrimoPDF (freeware).

Very handy PDF for documenting individual firearms. Laid out very well.
I also like having the information in a spread sheet grouped by type with a hyperlink to a photo file with unlimited photos of each along with any interesting period photos manuals, bayonets, articles etc..

I did up an excel spread sheet containing data on the rifles (No serials just date manufactured) or named weapons like my wifes Moogun or her Barnyard Full bore my 308 APRS the 6.5x284 and the different round count barrels it has Hart, Maddco etc.
For the shooting stocks I audited what I have on hand did up the formulas so when I add or take stock entering the amount it automatically subtracts or adds to the total for whatever plus the current value of each item with an overall amount invested in the components like powder, projies, primers etc, its a bit of work to set up but not to bad once done I also every couple of months save it to an external thumb drive overwriting the previous version works well for me.
You can also add pics to excel as well.

I could not find Gun Log +P but all I have is an iPhone and printing for it is a nightmare since I'm not "Apple Enabled" and locked into their technology. Thats is assuming of course that you could print a logsheet from the product. But thanks :)

Hi Sunray, The form would take any size I just optimized the box to fit 1024x768 for printing, any proportional will work 800x600, 640x480, etc... standard digital format. I made the form-fillable so it would not be a struggle to work with for people who used the free version of Adobe and CutePDF

True, but then not everyone has word and excel or wants to pay for it. I just wanted to make something that would meet a simple inventory need or for insurance that had no cost associated with it. This form is fillable, saveable, free and requires only a free version of Adobe Reader or clone.

I can do that I would just have to put checkboxes that opened additional areas on the sheet. I can build the form so only the information you want to enter is displayed. I'll work on adding stuff like that.

Sound like a cool worksheet, just curious why no serials? What do you keep records with for insurance purposes? Right now almost all of mone are photographs and a logbook and papers. That's why I decided to build a form - and become a modern man LOL

Just me as we have our license papers that contain the make and serials which stay in our wallets mind you my wallet is never far from me (Keeps the wife out LOL) so no need to have it on a computer as hackers find a way the DOM's are for my 303's
I got a bit scared when I saw just how much we had tied up in shooting stocks as in my previous thread I edited in that the program also calculates the $ value per item then total value of the entire stock on hand changing the $ & amount on hand values each time I add or take out specific numbers right down to 1 primer or 1 projie or a grain of powder.

I am not sure the insurance for the house would be to pleased at the amount of gunpowder/primers we have in the house if we had a fire I would be telling the fire fighters if it was to far gone just protect adjacent structures from radiated heat and stand well back as it is going to get interesting

It didn't come up in the app store search for me as well, must be being censored by our overseers. I Goggle-fu'ed it and found the developers page though. It has a link to download from the app store.
For anyone interested, btw you can print reports.

I didn't know that was a requirement in the AU, in even in Peoples Republic of Kalifornia we don't have to do that (yet) so I keep information sheets. Since I have a C&R I'm required to keep a records book on my milsup stuff but those records are limited too.

Saturday, February 6, 2016 Gun Log +P has been discontinued.

"Gun Log SPC is the most similar to Gun Log +P and it is the recommended app. Gun Log SPC does everything Gun Log +P does except sync with iCloud. Gun Log does not print or email. Be aware of those differences.


The reason Gun Log +P is no longer available is because sales of the app do not support the costs of support. Gun Log +P uses iCloud and it appears that it either works with no problems or for some it never seems to work and there is no rhyme or reason to the issues nor is there a clear solution. I have sent my code to Apple for review and the Apple developers said that my code was correct to their specifications, so there is nothing more than I can do."

Looked at the blog and Log Book SPC looks like a cool app, might be a pain do everything from an iPhone though. I might buy it to try the range features, and see what else it can do. For me, I think I'll still move forward with my form just because it has the hi-rez pictures whereas the Lob Book SPC blog indicates it only use a low res and you still have to store the high res someplace else. Cool app though I like the fact I can take it to the range with me and record all my data that I normally would do in a notepad. Now if my iPhone 6 plus keyboard wasn't so small.
