Look on the shelf where the fairy dust is along side the chooks teeth leaning against the rocking horse poo. I wish you luck lots of luck.
There're crap!
I used an L39A1 for service rifle competitions a few years back (with a No.4 rear sight) and assumed I could load fairly quickly with the adapter in the charger bridge.
Nothing could have been further from the truth, I ended up buying another couple of magazines and kept them charged in a 58 Pat ammo pouch for competitions.
My own experience with them has been that they work well; there is a bit of a knack in making them fit into the 303 charger bridge. Also a modified technique when stripping the rounds into the magazine - as well as thumb pressure, I put my forefinger under the tip of the top round in the charger and this seems to keep everything square to feed in. Have used three types, the Enfield, Sterling and a very well done custom job which was made to replace the cross-piece in the existing charger bridge.
I saw a Stirling 7.62 mag for sale today Mick, it was around £180 :yikes:
And new No 4 mags at £5 each - I'll take a crate
The clip adapter that the OP mentions were classed as scrap about ten years ago, when I enquired about them a dealer gave me 5 or 6 which I have since given away.
Their ability to stay in the charger bridge was at the very least suspect, there may be one in the mud on Century range at Bisley because I can remember finishing a service rifle stage only to discover the one fitted had vanished!
Apparently the little adapters were supposed to be rivetted in place, that is what the extra hole is for
I should think with a bit of skill, one could actually make one from steel fitted into the guide...better than trying to buy a sketchy one... Not that hard, just fiddly...
The originals work fine when riveted in properly. I used to have a bunch of them but all gone now. I do have a few original rivets left.
The adaptors come with a rivet. I find they work well with Enfield and Sterling mags.
A couple of pictures of a custom-made 7.62 charger guide replacing top bar of existing guide in No 4.
I don't know who made or installed it, it was on the rifle when I bought it second-hand.

cheers for the replies guys. have a second magazine lined up if one my rifle comes with is not up to scratch
I may still have one or two of these adapters somewhere in my various boxes of bits.
PM me if you want me to have a serious look.
