Sky-High Inland Repro Carbines

Just have to vent; I'm no longer interested in the U.S. Carbine for any practical use, but have a fondness for the .30 Carbine round in JHP for a PDW. I was interested when I saw the Inland Manufacturing carbine pistol with removable wrist brace, but the price!:eek:
They want twice what I could get for my pretty nice authentic Inland. I honestly believe I could MAKE an AR in .30 Carbine for less. I bet they don't sell a dozen of those or the 'tactical carbine'.

I was under the impression any "pistol" with a stock is considered a SBR and requires additional licensing to be legal?

Your right but this is not classified as a stock. It's an arm brace and as such is 100% legal to use with a hand gun. Sure looks like it could be used against the shoulder though. I wonder if the "New Inland" did get their act together with the junk carbines they were making or are they still producing junk???? People are stupid when they buy one of these and not a good rebuilt WW2 Inland or other make WW2 carbine. Cheaper and the real deal that will increase in value over time.

I have fired one! Terrific muzzle blast and fireball with standard ammo but can be loaded for a hand gun.

Arm brace; look at it and see how the back end 'clamshells' so you can open it then close it on the forearm so you can shoot the pistol single-handed. At least that's the ATF-approved story. Evidently some of you have not been watching closely because there's another incredible development with 'sawed-off' weapons - the 'non-firearm' that shoots standard 5.56mm/.223 Remington with a short barrel, pistol grip and regular AR carbine stock. The trick is, there's no rifling in the bore so it its not a 'rifle'. However, at pistol ranges its still blowing out a 62 gr rifle bullet at 3000 FPS. No stamp, no nothing although I think you still have to do the paperwork as for any other gun. And, there's a shotgun too although I don't know off-hand why its not NFA.

I too love the .30 Cal FMJ round, but I'd believe in the eyes of the law any shot beyond X yards could come back to bite me in the A$$.

Pick your Gage.. 12 Ga down to .410 Ga. Chambered for 3" but with an adapter shorter shells can be used to increase capacity. Your choice Slugs or Shot.

I don't get what you mean, but I think you're saying because they mentioned 'clearing malfunctions' that they're saying you can expect malfunctions with the Inland PDW. That's not the meaning at all - any self-loading gun has malfunctions from time to time. This is why every self-loading gun comes with malfunction drill instructions. I don't know what feature they are talking about that might block the ejection port on whatever other model they're discussing but one of the main attributes of the M1 Carbine and some other rifles is the open access and visibility of the bolt. I wouldn't want anything on one that affected that access.

I44,
Taking in to account the reviews about these 'new Inlands' I'd expect problems of all sorts.Their service was horrible, maybe it's improved by now. Many of the early issues have been covered by Jim M's follow up on them.
I know any arm can suffer malfunctions, but I for one could not or would not ever see myself having enough faith in these to bet my or my loved ones safety on.
The money or cost doesn't matter to me......... It's about dependability when needed.
And what if you had 3 or 4 bad guys rush the door? At this time I don't have any Claymores, so I'll stick with the Shockwave, with which the Wife can comfortably handle and the Revolvers conveniently stashed around our home base.

Hopefully your home front or our's will ever need use of any type PDW. :bow:

The Ruger Blackhawk would be the revolver definition. The AMT automag III
is the pistol definition. Have both and fun to shoot if you don't mind the flash.

Yes, the traffic is awful in 'Nawthun Vuhjinyuh' so I try not to go up there unless it can't be avoided. I might ride up, catch the Metro at Springfield and ride over to see a Redskins game every so often when I feel the need to 'wear the hair shirt'. :) Then there's a huge gun show in Chantilly a few times a year that's worth going to - its even more fun to go to it because it's in the shadow of 'The Beast' (DC), one of the most gun-hatin' holes in the world.

I'm not sure I see what the advantage of an AR15 platform chambered in .30 carbine would be over a well maintained M1 carbine. Starting in the late '90's I carried a M1 carbine in my patrol car as a deputy sheriff for about 10 years. I had to qualify with it a couple of times a year standing next to other officers shooting black guns and the only real handicap to the M1 carbine was the cost of .30 carbine ammo compared to .223.

To me the value of having an AR in .30 Carbine would be in several areas, mainly not putting wear on my G.I. carbine. Other benefits would be manifold, such as having a modern platform for optics (rails) that would also be easily customized, readily available parts and the transfer of familiarity from one's other ARs. As I said at the beginning, I no longer have any practical use for the M1 Carbine. When I got it over 20 years ago, my thinking was different than today. I now consider the carbine a collectable that will not be fired except very rarely.

I would try the standard mag, maybe a filler at the front to keep them back and just open the gas port until it runs...I should think...

I wondering about this muzzle flash in handguns from the carbine round. I'm thinking similar length cartridges in handguns - 32 H&R, 357 etc magnums etc in similar handguns, but nobody comments about muzzle flash in them. Please enlighten me, I would dearly like to know.

The .30 Carbine round is a rifle cartridge and operates at higher pressures than the handgun rounds you mentioned. The pressure specs are nearly double that of the 32 H&R and roughly 15% higher than the 357 magnum. Out of the shorter barrel (rather than the full 18" Carbine barrel) a lot of the energy is wasted as the bullet exits the muzzle, and results in the flash. The powder used for .30 carbine ammo is tailored to an 18 barrel so firing it in a short barrel of a pistol means a lot of noise and lots of flash. The powder keeps burning after the bullets exits the barrel and one has a large fireball.

As cool as it looks. It kills my follow up shots.I shoot mine once in a while, just for kicks.

They made trial pattern 1917 revolvers and Ruger for one made the Blackhawk in .30 carbine. The report was like an anti tank gun firing and the concussion was reported to clear both the shooter's bench and the firing line... It was unpleasant to say the least. The 1917 trial revolver was not adopted...

AMT also made an auto mag pistol in .30 carbine. I got the same flash and noise results from mine.

I shoot my carbines regularly and use them for defense carbines. I can't see how "normal" civilian use would wear one out in the life time of any adult now living.

Was told today about a App for a smartphone called 'Lightning Catcher'. Was told it makes catching muzzle flash easy. He said it works for lightning too..... and is Free.
Anyone heard about this App?

Some complain about excess Flash and Fireball Blossums, I'm all for it. Reminds be of back in the day with your first dual exhaust and glass packs. And why Harley's don't have really quite mufflers!

I bought two, new, in 1992. The cost was $549. I think they stopped making them around 2000 or 2001. I sold my unfired example for $800 last year.
My used one will go to my son. Used maybe $450-$500 would be a reasonable price to me. But scarce market items sometimes get a premium. They are fun, but only average build quality. Accuracy on mine is between 3"-5" at 25 to 40 yards taking my time. Rapid fire it's all over the place as I can't get a sight picture through the flash but still bang away.

My Ruger three screw Blackhawk .30 carbine shoots a lot better. Even with the flash.

Collecting carbines I just had to have them. And don't regret it.

The Picture: I don't know how to properly attach it ( AGIF) so you can see it in motion making the muzzle flash and smoke ring visible. I tried loading it differently a 2nd time in the lower reply, but with same results... It would show motion for a bit then nothing more than a still picture. That's why I attached the link to the S&W performance center, so you could see the motion.

So... Not me in the picture. Still dealing with the shoulder problem I can't get my right arm up to horizontal to the floor yet, getting closer though.
Anyway for now I'm just a rested bench shooter.

Got Some New Projects: When I find free time I've been customizing a pair of Hover Rounds for the Wife and I, for when needed.
I'm just about finished up with my Air brushed Flame job on mine. Looking Fast just sitting there !

Charlie, About 6 to 7 hours away from there. The only show I know of in that area is the one at Chantilly and that is the big one. I don't think it's going on when your in the area. I do not know of any closer to me during that time frame. I have been very disappointed in the local shows. It's all just plastic guns and nothing that is C&R or even close to collectable.:thdown:

Well lets see here. I did take the shovel. Your wife gave it to me so she would not have to remove all that white stuff you got this past winter. She said I could use it. I gave it back when things got better. As to the assault (without pepper). Why I was doing you a favor. You see there was this big cockroach crawling on your head so naturally I knew you would want it removed and so I just removed it.

There was a great reloader in my area who made pistol ammo for handguns shooting .30 Carbine. Made a big difference in flash!

Would be easy if you KNOW it's not going into a carbine. Just load it down and change the powder. Ball powder is notorious for flash for instance...
