Hi Guys
I would very much like a transit case for my RN Lee Enfield N9 .22 trainer and have scratched around on the forum for N9 Transit cases info with very little success.
I am wondering
1. Did the N9 ever have a Transit case, I think not?
2. Did the C7 have such a case?
3. Does anyone anyone know of anyone making retro cases in the UK?

Only the C No.7 was issued with a wood transit case.
Thanks, that's what I thought. So what I need/want is a C7 case, probably a repro. Does anyone know of a maker in the UK. I've looked at the drawings and they are beyond my carpentry skills.
Quite often appear on ebay. One recently went for £250. There seem to be a lot in Canada

A few years ago I sent a repro No 15 sniper chest to the UK, the shipping was not actually that bad by sea, couple of hundred CAD I think it was but the recipient got dinged with hefty customs charges. I am not sure if they hit you with those customs charges every time but we did. Another problem is if the package goes by ship I was told at the post office it could take up to two months because they wait until the secan is full in Vancouver (near where I live and also makes it a Long way from the UK!) before they send it. Generally speaking from my experiences it is just too costly unless you are willing to pay a lot of money for shipping and be prepared to wait a long time. A C 7 chest would just not be worth it, no 15 original maybe. Just my two cents worth.
See if you can find an FN-49 sniper box. They were at one time cheap and plentiful. You could make it work. Or have a cabinet maker build you one.
Thanks everybody. I really need to find one, new or retro, in the UK. Shipping + customs across the pond is a killer. Ill keep looking.

Yes we suffer double jeopardy on Her Majesties Customs & Excise. Best way is to value it very very low, with the hope it never goes missing!! Use a reputable deliverer like UPS/DHL that will keep the costs down this end anyway, and they are quite good on trans Atlantic shipping costs.
Eddie, try Richard Stork at the Devizes Gunsmith. He has a carpenter who is producing modern 4T transit chests, I'm sure it wouldn't be too diff to do one for your No.9

ds-solutions.co.uk had repro No15 chests at a couple of shows this last year. they also sell metal work for building your own No15 chest.

Thanks to Forum power I have acquire a C No7 case, now just waiting for it to make it though the postal system.
I am aware that it came with a cleaning rod, a jag and bronze and bristle brushes. Was that all there was and what pattern of rod?

The Cno7 cleaning rod is unique. It came with 2 jags - solid and slotted and 2 brushes - nylon and wire. All had unique threads. Not many sets out there and quite pricey. If a No9 why not just buy Parker Hale. Other things in the box - sling, oiler, targets. I've got a CES somewhere. Ron (Canada).

I do already have quite a large collection of vintage PH .22 cleaning kit including this rather smart kit.
The box actually has three drilled out holes alongside the front bracket which appear to fit a jag and two brushes, presumably bronze and bristle.
If you do come on the CES I'd bet very pleased to see it.
Can we say what pattern of oiler and sling were standard.
I had a couple kicking around, sold them with transit chests. Supply and demand... Alone they fetch around a hundred bucks, IF you can find one.

Blimey! Now I know what that tatty old cleaning rod is that was up the corner in the garage for years......! It's a highly desirable CNo7 cleaning rod. I must have a look to see if I've still got it, although I may have given it away (weeps).........
