Not one of those I couldn't. Too much other I could get with three plus grand.
thank god I have one already ;).. Not sure how many are in the USA but it can't be many.. would make an extremely nice addition to the L42a1 set up creating a unicorn weapon system.
I asked the seller for details of the reticle pattern, his reply: "Artillery pattern I believe"

I was very fortunate and found this a few years ago.
Non functioning when I got it, but turned out to be only a dry joint at the inverter
Mine works well. Came through customs with 4 batteries.
Sadly well over priced IMHO but it is what it is! On that price basis you can have my FULL CES L42A1 with full provenance of its user in the Falklands War for £15,000 how's about that for overpricing!!
Jim,
Not too far off the mark IMHO at the moment I know where there are two on their own in the chests for over £11K with no provenance ;)
I still have a few user handbooks and infantry training pams available if interested.
IWS is the last part I need to complete the L42A1 “kit”.
But $3,300 ....?
I don't believe that they are making any more...
Caretakership of these pieces of history has a cost, and at the end of the day, something cool and historic is better than some numbers in a bank... :)
Always a gamble buying a piece of kit like this on any websites, without firstly getting your hands on it to check the cathode tube is still in good order, and not been subjected to light. From memory it is a Delft 1st Generation tube in these and the reason they have the rubber cover with a pinhole in the centre, and rightly named the "just in case" hole.
If the image on the sale site is right it seems to be OK but sadly until you get it in your mits and check the honeycombing carefully for damage very difficult IMHO especially at that price plus the shipping and no doubt Customs bit on top, which would make it a very expensive buy, and a difficult one to send back from the UK if found to be damaged.
Gil, you couldn't get it in the UK without filling in the correct paperwork to clear customs regardless who sends it unless its cleared by a freight forwarding company, anything now over £800 something will be impounded............. and to try and find the correct commodity code and fill in the correct boxes is a nightmare, I was lucky in finding an importer who just give me the right info etc, except my item went off the radar again........ until it landed on the senders doormat which led to plan B......
Getting it out the states would be another nightmare.......
:lol: Geoff agreed, but they got there OK didn't they from here............lucky buggers!
Customs always amaze me. If the seller put down the goods were only worth £10 for instance and not the real cost $3000 they charge a pitance for their work, put down the real price and get another $1000+ dollars slapped on it.
No Ryhme nor reason behind it all :ugh:
