Hi All,
This weekend at a local Gun show, I picked up this memento of a close call.
No doubt an AIF veteran held onto it as a keepsake.
The charger is a Kynoch made Mk III
The .303 cartridge head stamps are R17L VII
The embedded projectile is a 7.92mm.
I bet there is a very interesting story behind that clip of ammo!!

It could have been in an ammo can and not on someone's person.

I thought that one had been debunked, no rifling marks on the struck bullet?
I seem to remember reading that on another thread some time ago
One with rifling marks, and one without. Not a mid air collision as many on the internet have previously suggested. I think I have seen that particular bullet collision in the Gallipoli Museum in Turkey if I remember correctly.Quote:

It wasn't a close call if the bullet passed through the poor sod from the back before lodging in the charger carried in the pouch on his front!
A fellow I bought a Carcano carbine from tried and tried to sell me a Walther PP that had been shot in the slide with something powerful....interesting piece but it wasn't any good to me.

My wife has her great uncles issued prayer book which was struck by a bullet in the Great War, I suspect it was in his small pack when it happened.
I never met him but my wife tells me he suffered from shell shock and was painfully shy to the extent of hiding from visitors when he returned from France.
It's a little odd how many of these coins are British but so are the bullets that have pierced them!

I can however believe the bible story ;)
What's really strange is how many troops carry loose change into combat...pockets jingling...
Yes, what I was suggesting in post 23 was that most of these were probably just 'manufactured' for the souvenir market. Maybe the odd one is genuine, but not most. A sort of specialised form of trench art really......
Not something I'd buy as genuine.
Now.......................I have a PARA helmet that I had a richochet off in Northern Ireland is that worth something. It happened at Ballykinlar ranges in the butts :lol:
