1942 dated Inland M1A1 carbine. (Pics.)

Very nice, I have it's twin 114xxx 11-42 barrel date. There seems to be several M1A1s floating around in this range. Is there a number written in pencil on the left inside of the stock? Mine has the number 12 written upside down. Thanks for sharing. :beerchug:

Looks good. I'd be interested in seeing the sides of the reciever and trigger housing, the rear of the trigger guard, and the portion of the barrel hidden by the stock.

Thanks for the comments.
Newscotlander this is the best I could do for now regarding the photos you requested....they might not be the perspectives you wanted, but the gun is not close at hand.
dbarn,
I don't remember seeing any pencil markings, and my notes don't make any reference in that regard????

The number on mine was overlooked for several years. It took a bright flash light to find it. It's actually located on the left side of the slide well. Not sure of the significance or how many were marked this way. Have also heard of ink stamped numbers. Here's a photo.

Looks good. Don't see anything wrong with it.
Two things I was looking for.
1. The two tone blued appearance of the receiver and barrel.
2. Matching wear marks between the stock and action.
I see signs of both. The more pictures, the better.
I have an early M1A1 (154574). It does not have the OI in the slide well. Does yours have the OI in slide well?

Newscotlander,
M1 and M1A1 carbines are not my collecting focus.....so please forgive me if I don't know where the slide well is?
Do you see the marking?

dbarn,
I never thought to look there?

This is the balance of my M1 carbine experience. Both carbines are Bavarian marked.
Both of these carbines are on Jim Mock's web site. (The link to Jim's web site is below.)

Rightous M1A1.... Honest wear on an old soldier.... Just like you like to get them... Nice photos too. My early M1A1 had IO in the slide well.

Nice rifle, great example of a Bavarian! Thanks for sharing.

If it was there, it would be stamped in the circled area.

Thanks Newscotlander.
Is there a faint outline of an “O” in the lower left corner of the slide well photos?
It surely is not very clear.
I had to take many photos of the small “crossed cannons” escutcheon on the underside of the pistol grip showing the “O” before I got something that was “somewhat” clear…..these markings are pretty faint.
The “I” is obscured by the sling attachment assembly.

I see the OI and cross cannons on the bottom of the pistol grip. It's not unusual for the early first production M1A1s to not have the OI in the slide well.
It's a nice carbine. Is there any way you could fill out a data sheet and post it?
-
Newscotlander,
I believe that a data sheet is going to require much more detailed info than I currently have access to.
These are extracts from my inventory sheet that was quickly put together after I bought the gun. (Pretty basic stuff and lacking the different codes on many components.)
Remember.....I am not a carbine expert....nor a "dyed in the wool" carbine collector.

--------------------------
“P” proof code in a circle on the rear of the stock above the pistol grip by the recoil plate.
On the underside of the pistol grip there is a stamped faint Ordnance ”crossed cannons” escutcheon with what looks like an “O” for Overton /Inland. The “I” is obscured by the sling assembly.
There is a visible “OI” stamp on the underside of the handguard
.
On the inside of the buttplate there is a number cast “B257654” followed by a circled asterisk-like number with a one or two digit number.
The number looks a “10”.

I have its older sister Inland 123649 with a 10-42 Inland General Motor barrels with a MW <2 - it is not in original configuration.

GPlourde,
Thanks for your comment regarding the Bavaria marked carbine above.
I may start a thread on these two carbines.
I have more photos and parts identification on these two carbines than for the M1A1 Inland carbine that is the subject of this thread.
(Thanks to Jim Mock.)
These guns have their own M1 carbine collecting nitch with an interesting post war history.

drm2m,
Definitely start a new thread. You have two excellent Bavarian carbines.
