I thought I'd seen just about every type of wrapping that was used on M1 Carbine mags. Is the one pictured here common? I'm guessing it was part of an inspection and "re-pack" program that was done Post War. Has anyone seen these before? Thanks! - Bob
Almost looks like wax dipped medical gauze. First I've seen that.
I've seen several wrapped in the waxy gauze material. They aren't as common as the normal treated paper wrapped magazines.
Do you recall if any of them were individually labeled like this one? These are apparently WII made magazines that were possibly inspected and repackaged in 1953. :dunno: - BobQuote:

At the Tulsa show some years back I saw about 2 dozen of these. they were repacked in the 50's like a lot of ammo was as well and they bear the repack date after inspection....
No Bob I don't. But years ago I bought about 60 magazines in a large cardboard box marked 100 .30 carbine magazines. Inside they were stacked neatly and all mixed as to what they were wrapped in. About 60% were in cellophane. The rest in Brown or White paper and a handful were waxed and wrapped. I think I had about 10 that were in paper and were Parkerized. I couldn't say no to them at .25 cents each back in 1982.

Maybe check with Colin. Evidently he bough several crates when he was assigned to Europe; and sold at nice prices through the CMP forum.

I did a bit more research yesterday. I found an older thread on the CMP Forum that made reference to 15 rd. mags that were put up in 5 packs. Anolther reference mentioned 10 packs that contained (2) of the 5's. So far, I can't come up with any other evidence of individually labeled packages, other than what I've shown in my original post. Bill Ricca helped explain how the Stock Numbers changed from the late war years into the early 50's in this link:

If you have WB II, look at the information on pp. 582-583. There are some corrections and additions on pp. 1306-1307 in WB III, but still leaves my original question unanswered. - Bob

Ooops! That's incorrect on my part, since it plainly says, "1 magazine" right on the label.
A $100 for a wrapped up magazine done in 1953. Someone has as much money to burn as Bloomberg it seems.
I'm surprised they were able to stay under the radar for an entire auction.
You can't sell magazines over 15 round capacity on eBay...or at least you're not supposed to.
In fact, you're supposed to explicitly state how many rounds the magazine holds. I once got put in time out for selling a Spanish Destroyer magazine. They hold something like 7 rounds but I didn't state that.

100 magazines each for 6 million M1 Carbines is 600,000,000. Either way its a lot of magazines, of which maybe 100,000,000 are still existing.
