Need help to ID some 7.62x25 ammo.

Recently I bought a crate of 2 spam can 7.62x25 Tok ammo from Marstar Canada.
After I received the crate I found there were thousands of dead ants in the crate but luckily the spam cans were intact. The ants built a colony in the crate!

The spam cans were painted green.

There are 2 numbers and 2 stars on the head stamp.
3 @ 12 o'clock location
46 @ 6 o'clock location
and 2 star @ 9 and 3 o'clock location.
The ammo have brass cases and the projectiles attract to a magnet, so possibility steel jacket or steel core?

Marstar said it is Russian surplus but I only saw copper washed steel case Russian 7.62x25 before, so I'd like have someone help me to ID this ammo. Also, does anyone know if these are steel core or not?

Looks like Russian to me. Why not section a bullet with a file and show us what's inside...cross section.

It's 100% Russian, made at Ulyanovsk in 1946.

1946 seems a long time ago, will it be safe to fire this ammo through my Tok?

I have one Zastava M57, one polish Tok and a Chinese Type 54.

But being from 1946, it is definitely corrosive. Clean with a water based cleaner as soon as possible after shooting so it won't corrode your pistol.

Yes I thought it would be corrosive. Usually I clean my Toks with hot water asap after the trip to the range.

I pulled one and sectioned it today.

I have two lot
one is copper washed steel case from batch 38-77.
Another is the brass case from 3-46
The 38-77 has less powder than the 3-46 and the 38-77 is copper washed steel core and the 3-46 is copper washed lead core with steel jacket.

For the copper washed steel case and steel core surplus 7.62x25

Headstamp 38-77
"пистолетные патроны калибра 7,62 мм 70 шт." (7.62 mm pistol cartridges 70 pcs.) on box

"7,62 пстгж" on crate.

Brass primer cup and the primer type is "Berdan"

Entire cartridge weight 10.0g, the projectile weight 5.5g, the case weight 4.3g and the powder weight 0.3g (I don't have an analytical balance so the weighs are approximately) .

The projectile has a lead encasing at the bottom.

For the brass case copper washed steel jacket and lead core surplus 7.62x25

Headstamp 3-46
"пистолетные патроны калибра 7,62 мм 70 шт." (7.62 mm pistol cartridges 70 pcs.) on box

"7,62 пгп" on crate.

Berdan primer

Entire cartridge weight 10.8g, the projectile weight 5.5g, the case weight 4.6g and the powder weight 0.7g (I don't have an analytical balance so the weighs are approximately) .

The projectile has a lead encasing at the bottom.

Comparing this two cartridges.

For 38-77
The core of the projectile was very hard to scratch with a screw driver and attracted by a magnet so I assumed it is steel core.

For 3-46
Core was separated from the jacket when I cut it open with a angle grinder. The core was soft, easily scratched and marked and did not attracted by a magnet. The jacket did attracted by a magnet so I assumed it is copper washed lead core with steel jacket.

The steel core projectile (38-77) is longer than the lead core projectile (3-46). (Someone mentioned this in another forum)

The powder in (3-46) is more than the powder in (38-77), Maybe (3-46) runs hotter?

First three images are the cut opened projectile from (3-46). The 5th image is the cross section of (38-77)

MVP, I collect all variations of 7.62 Tokarev cartridges and boxes. I have both the rounds, but I could use those boxes......one for an addition and the other for an upgrade. Please PM me if you can mail the empty boxes to me here in The Great Green South. If course I'll pay any costs.
