Nordenfedlt projie

A projie I got @ a month ago for $43/Aud they got the Nordenfedlt right but said it was 1889 vintage which was wrong but I am happy with it not to many floating around. I measured this one and it goes like this
Projectile body 38mm
Top driving band 38.95mm
Bottom driving band 38.83mm
Projie O/all 129mm
Stampings N89 & N
What I am chasing is the correct empty case for one if some one has one they wish to off load PM me and we will see what transpires

From Wiki and they had a pic of the same projectile with the hollow base and 2 bands also with the same stampings as mine;

DESCRIPTION British Hotchkiss/Nordenfelt 37mm Armour piecing high explosive with base fuse projectile.(APHE)

We believe these were the inspection numbers.

The N stamp usually signifies Naval stores..

Its possible the manufacture date is 1889?

I would be surprised if it was HE filled.. more likely to be CP (Common Pointed) GP fill with an Armstrong or Hotchkiss base fuze.. (nasty things btw..!)

Cinders, do you have an image of the correct brass case for this, please?

Not sure on what it should look like sorry F10 :dunno: but I did find this site where we can all benifit from its got lots in there.

GP fill would be...Amatol? Ammonial? What particularly?

Here you have a 37 projectile and no case. I have a 37mm Jap and no projectile. I have to make one I fear. Good luck hunting one of these...

I know you love to look at stuff, here's a link with your case and projectile pictured...if you look just a bit above it you see my 37mm Jap and projectile too. I looked at your links and saw nothing of assistance...

Sorry, my use of UK terminology.. GP - Gunpowder - standard Black Powder. CP "Common Pointed" shell were base fuzed, filled with Gunpowder and were in use up until the beginning of WW1. A lot of shell was made from cast iron until the development of Bessemer steel in the late 1800s, often cast in a mould with a chill plate in the bottom to give a hardened tip. These were filled with gunpowder, usually reject cannon powder or "sweepings" which gave a good fragment pattern. Early HE shell was not that good until they switched to making it from steel.

I have a couple of these cases so stuck it in there for the time being I have no idea as to the maker and what they are except it takes the round snugly.
Any ideas the 303 cartridge for scale.

It doesn't quite look like the US 37mm case, the neck isn't long enough.

Thanks for the reply Jim its not US issue I have a 37MM and you are right the US has a longer neck.
The neck on both of these cases have not been messed with not like that Jap case I brought, ended up with another one bit skankier but has an intact neck.

I believe that there was more than one US 37mm.

Yes there was but that one in post seven isn't one of them. I'm pretty sure. Besides, US issue would be so marked like the one you show. The one you show is the one we were discussing.
