Hello, wondering if the CWS KITE sight was used on the L42. Thanks!
Good question but I think the L42 was out of service by the time the Kite came along
CWS was designed in combination with the SA80 and when it entered service it wasn’t compatible with the L96 until the mount was developed.
The sight shown listed in the CES is the L5A1
There is an article on the subject by Peter Laidler here :

Are you sure ?
I'm obviously not the only one to get it wrong.

The only night sight used in service on the L42A1 was the L1A1 IWS, mounted to the rifle using the L5A1 mount

The 'L' designations used in weapon/sight terminology can be confusing, with the same designation used for different items (L1A1 can refer to the SLR, the IWS etc etc) - this link goes some way to describing how they were used:
List of British weapon L numbers - Wikipedia
But in the case of the L42A1, the Image Intensifier was L1A1 and its mount was L5A1
What was the L5A1 sight used on other than the M16? Looks more compact than the IWS sight?
Well, according to the company selling them :

I had a conversation with either Peter L or Roger P re this?
I seem to remember that it was along the lines that the L5A1 scope was only a trial issue, I used one on my SLR in service and still have one, complete with bag and hard carry case and it is used on my SLR for night shoots.
Good optic but it is only 1.5 magnification, Gen 2+.
Hi Gloworm. It was probably PL - it's all a bit 'modern' for me!
Thanks Roger , the old grey cells are easily confused these days 🤪
