Thought It Was The Right Moment...

Hi all,


I just received this wonderful, frightening book.
I read it as a teenager at school. We had a wonderful English teacher, Mr. Conway. A crazy, genial Irish guy.
I think he has been one of the most important characters in my life, because he taught me to look at life with a very ironic eye, but to never back-up from your beliefs, no matter what happens.
This crappy Coronavirus has made me think a lot and so I thought that it was time to read 1984 again.
And I'll have my son read it too, because I want him to get that creepy feeling that comes when you see how controlled they are in the book. And I also want him to understand what is going on with or "democracy" during this crises.
While at my time (mid-80ies) we would have never thought of being constantly monitored, now it is real. And we are bombarded by propaganda all the time, on all media.
Sometimes I talk (or my wife or friends of ours) about something and when we surf the Internet again with our phone, we find commercials of what we were talking about.
That book was pure prophecy, and I want to read it now, while feeling so...enraged.
Having it again, also my daughters will read it when they'll have the age.

Big brother has been with us a long time and getting bigger by the day.

The latest one I have been watching is A.I as if and when we cross that void and robotics become self aware then as that movie depicts may see us as the virus and eliminate us, allot of people have scoffed at different prophecies that book Ovidio is not that far removed from the truth we live now.
At least when I read my WWI - WWII history books I do not get a creepy feeling!

The future is now friend. China's 'social credit system' straight out of Orwell's '1984'

And the same companies who provide our "services", forged their chains.

The key is in the lock, the tumblers have aligned and the hands are waiting to turn it.

I look at these guys like ORWELL and of course NOSTRADAMUS. They must have had sad lives when you read their stuff, much of which has come true.
Was it that obvious and the stuff thats coming or been on time???
I'm an inventor of Police & Military equipment, I wish I had that sort of foresight

My Grandpa alway warned against the "yellow danger"...
He knew them well and was convinced that they would have come to this.

I find I am less and less interested in reading about what amounts to historical trivia. That "creepy feeling" or however one wants to describe it, is like pain in the body: a warning to pay attention before a crisis is reached.

It is interesting when you watch older 'state of the nation' books or movies. It brings to mind the Will Smith movie 'Enemy of the State' and how now in 2020 that is all seen as basic and commonplace well in 1998 it was terrifying (to me it still is).

Some of the technology and capabilities they have now make the Stazi look like amateurs.

I think that some of Orwell's predictions were frighteningly accurate.

Anyone who paid attention to what was going on in Russia from 1918 onward, or who bothered to read the emigré books that began to appear after the Great Terror began, could easily see what life was like in a such a state.

Orwell also saw what happened in Spain, where the POUM militia with which he was associated was being suppressed by the Soviet NKVD and their Spanish tools, along with every other group not controlled by Communists. (The Spanish gold reserves were shipped to Odessa and never seen again BTW)

Happily the "Republican" scum lost, as otherwise Germany would unquestionably have invaded Spain after the conquest of France, Gibraltar would have been taken, and the Mediterranean would have become an Axis lake. Egypt and Suez would go next, the oil of Middle East and Iraq would have been open to Germany, and Soviet Russia probably crushed in a far better prepared and wider-fronted attack.

The result of that would have been unquestionably an Axis victory in WWII. The only possible variations would have been whether Britain would have survived as an independent state, and what Japan would have done that might have still led to the development of atomic weapons.

I'm thinking things such as being "asked" by one's employer to be "chipped".

One can imagine some of the responses that a "company chip inserter" may get from employees when he/she says, to employees, "I'm sorry to bother you but I just need to install this chip into you. It won't take a minute.".

The “company chip inserter” might get a “chip” inserted into him too...

Don't forget that they are building a genetic database that within about 10-20 years is going to be pretty complete in North America, thanks to those ancestry.ca type goes. It has already been used to solve several cold case murders by obtaining warrants, and because it doesn't need to be your DNA just a close relative as they can get a warrant to get yours if anything suspicious comes up.

It would not surprise me if in a few years they start taking a DNA sample when you are born for future reference.

I bet it’ll be so...

I know they have my fingerprints. Have had them for a long time. Not sure if they have my DNA or not. I just don't remember if I was in at the time or not. I seem to recall it being discussed but don't recall the test. Who knows what they did to me in the hospital two years ago.

Don't worry, I believe they have tons of data, but I also believe in Government incompetence so that data is likely poorly stored and very inaccessible to sift though, likely requiring a lot of time and manpower to happen, which they are unlikely to dedicate unless they have to.

The lessons are not lost on me, my point was that our efforts are better spent on trying to understand why and how we got into this mess, and whose efforts have been devoted to getting us there, and why.

This does not diminish the importance of the events of the past, it's more a question of where one chooses to spend one's time now. Those of us who have a decent knowledge of some aspects of history, would be wise to flesh out our knowledge of the "flash and bang" with more knowledge of the backgrounds, the deeper causative factors and players, how they are acting today, and to what ends.

I suppose to some people that will sound alarmingly "conspiratorial", but as FDR said, "

Here's your ration of soylent green.

If the populace would get off their butts and participate/vote nothing like this will come to pass.

Yes, I admit that I prefer the good old “manual” voting process.

My holidays are slowly getting to their end...
I read a lot. In two weeks,I read two novels from Connelly (an older one - The Last Coyote - and the latest one - The Night Fire). Both really good.
Then I took two war books. One in German, which is also available in English, about a machine gunner on the eastern front in WWII, and one written by an English field artillery officer in WWI.
I allow myself to suggest both.
In both books, the author was 18 when he got in the war.
The German account has a few lines about the use of the MG that tell you right away that this guy was really an MG gunner.
Horrendous life, incredible experience... It reminded me of Guy Sayer’s Forgotten Soldier.
The Unreturning Army, on the other hand, is a collection of letters the author sent to his mother between June 1917 and April 1918, plus the aftermath...
Great read both, and I think probably something a few here might appreciate.
