Know how you get rid of something think you will never need it?
Well, now I'm kicking myself for dumping my old reloading manuals. (sigh......) :crying:
I found an older gentleman who is selling NORMA 203 (NOT 203B) seal never used 400 grams (1lb'ish) cans that I would love to load for the Remington 270 I just put a scope on.
That's a hard one. I've tossed stuff before and needed it the next week, and (mostly) I've tossed stuff and never looked back. My "new" rule-of-thumb is: If I move it 3x's, the 3rd move is to the street. Unless it's got sentimental value, then all rules are off. I know, confusing... :madsmile:

eh Had a few old Ruger 10/22 stocks (wood) figured never need again, Of Course sold or traded not sure which......About 9 months later low n behold someone throws me a 10/22 that needs cleaning, spring replacements oh YES the stock was all chewed and mangled. DOH!!!
Yeah, nearly the same thing happened to me. Got rid of the stock, only to get a 12/22 rifle cheap because the stock was broken off and missing a chunk out of the right side. I put it back together with acraglas and it used it for years before I go tired of looking at the patched stock.Quote:

Your old reloading manuals would have to be really old. It appears that Norma 203 dates from the early to mid 1960's. Seems that 203B is just a "slightly" altered 203. Allegedly has a different burn rate too.
This is a 2014 vintage post on another forum. Don't think it'll help in any way but a bit of info though. Nobody says 203 is the same as 203B though.

Hi Jim, yeah I know that's a concern... but I can't see letting a case go to waste without at least trying the powder. I wouldn't try and hunt or use it for target shooing, but would be a way to reduce plinking cost. The case is unopened and has been stored inside the house so has not been subject to temperature swings. I did send the lot number to NORMA to see if they could tell me when it was manufactured. On my way home, I stopped by my friend's house and he gave me a couple can of the NORMA 203 out of the case and gave me Norma Load Data pamphlet -- sadly no load data for the 7.62x39; So I guess i'll have to figure that one out for myself. Anyhow, as far as the can go, the are clean.. not even a bit of discoloration on them.

I doubt you'll find one. I wouldn't without a pressure gun to work up loads... Those Remington primers should be good to go.Quote:

Over the years I've picked up one or tins of Nobels Rifle and Pistol powders, and glad I kept the book they issued for them.
I was finally able to work up some loads and get out to the range to test that Old Norma 203 power. I ended up loading the .270 Winchester in 0.5 increments starting at 40.5 grains to 45.0 grains. So 10 different loads. I used 130 grain Hornady Interlocks and Remington 9 1/2 primers in Winchester Brass.
Out of the Ten loads, I think I have four possible loads to retest. Unfourtuintly when I got to 44.5 and 45.0 grains I lost the light and my coronagraph recorded error so I lost data points on 44.5 and all of 45.0 so I might run 44.5 and 45.0. Might run 45.5 and 46.0 as well since there were no signs of overpressure.
Bottom line is that the Norma 203 Powder looks to be still viable. Although don't think the .270 is the best caliber to run it in. But makes for some cheap plinking rounds.
