Foregrip for Thompson 1928 - original or fake?

Good Evening everyone!

I have purchased the following foregrip seen on the pictures. It is in quite good condition, but I am in doubt about its authenticity:

- The grip has a very shallowly stamped "S", which looks rather engraved than stamped - but maybe it was just stamped very gently, to do no damage to the weak spot of the material in the front.

- It has a stamped number on the rear as seen on the picture.

- When I fit it to my 1928A1, it seemed that it was not attached to a gun before, because it was quite tight to press it into the rail.

- The attachment-screw was not completely covered by paint/bluing, only the head and the end-parts of the thread.

- It comes from a warehouse in russia, so maybe a leftover of the lend/lease-program.

Where did you get THAT information, did you go there and pick it up yourself? Sounds like the claim that "It's been in this collection for 50 years"...

I think it's a copy, I can show you my Savage front grip for comparison, there are no sharp corners...yes, mine has been around but there's no similarity except the shape.

Pretty simple. Nearly all Thompsons on the market in Europe originate from the War Aid Thompsons delivered to Russia in WWII which were sold off until maybe 5 years ago via a large stock gun dealer.

I heard that one too. That doesn't speak or THIS foregrip...it's loose. I find myself too skeptical to buy like that. Without the actual paper trail of this one he could be buying anything. Anyway, he asked and I had one to compare with. Mine was a vet bring back from Italy. I know it's source and history of who had it, where it was. Mine is a Savage gun.

Now don't get the wrong idea, comparing it to mine, my vote is skeptical on real. Someone may come along with vast knowledge and PROVE it's real. The story about it coming from a warehouse in Russia...well, I have a hard time with stories is all. Specially if they're convenient.

Both the Colt and Savage have different profiles on the side view but the top one in the post looks fake - sharp edges should be rounded

Not many US Lend Lease Thompsons had the front grip if any ? that went to USSR

Some of the Savage TSMG did have the front grip to the UK

Early Colt 1921 had the front grip and France did receive them but not Lend Lease
bought outright

I might ask the person who bought the 20.000 Thompsons whether they also had spare grips. Maybe he still remembers.

He does not bother on small items like this at all. Too little profit for too much work.

Looks "blocky" to me. Reminds me of the ones Numrich sold in the late Eighties on the West Hurley guns. I've got a Colt one I sometime mount on my M1928A1 when that look is needed. Here as good a picture as I have right now.

Eh I am thinking a reproduction my nagant had reproduction grips "copying markings" s long as reproduction is understood between parties is an unfortunate legitimate practice. many make it into private party sales the seller is as baffled as the buyer. Some warehouses order gross copies well try and take advantage $3.00 for a copy then charge $47 as if original add additional $15 shipping well it is just robbery..
