You have a Lee Enfield No4 rifle manufactured in Canada at the Long Branch plant.
After doing 'service' it was sold off into the Civilian gun market in the UK and received UK proof marks to show it was 'safe' to shoot.
Sometime pre 1968 it was imported into the USA and import marked "England"
It was then subsequently cut down, sporterised and fitted with a No5 butt.
I believe they were sold as 'Tanker' rifles (although no such thing existed except in someones imagination) with the explanation that they had to have short barrels to be able to get out of a tank turret.
An example of what can be done to a rifle, but of little collector value.
If you want a 'truck-gun' it'll be fine.
If it was a family members rifle, keep it as is and think of your loved one whenever you use it.
BRP (Winder, GA) generally has No4 Mk1 magazines in stock.

You could also place a WTB ad here in the correct forum, I'll bet someone here has one in his pocket... Don't get the odd looking Promag for these by the way. Take an original #4 mag...Quote:

They were actually very well executed at a time when these surplus
rifles were considered cheap over supply. junk rifles.
They also made a copy of the "Jungle Rifles"

For a shortened 5 round magazine you start with a normal magazine. Cut magazine at trigger guard level, solder in bottom plate, break off one spring leaf. Done.

No. 4 Mk I* bubba'd into a carbine. The butt stock is the same and may be a real No. 5 Rifle(aka Jungle Carbine) stock. Same mag in a No. 5 as a No. 4.
Gunparts currently has No. 4(they list No. 4 parts under 'SMLE' for some reason. Been yelling at 'em for more than 20 years that a No. 4 is not an SMLE) mags on sale at $39.95. Regular price is $54.75. They list .303 Brit charger clips at $2.75 each too.
No. 1 Mk III mags do not fit in a No. 4 unless the bottom locking lug is ground off. Difference between the mags is the No. 1 mag has 2 locking lugs while a No. 4 mag has 1.
Sarco wants $30 for a repro mag. $3 for a charger clip.
Golden State/Sante Fe produced ggod rifles from no 1 and no 4 Lee Enfields. Not bubba'd.
Did Sante Fe chop the receivers like that?
The pictures aren't that clear, but yes, I believe so. Scrubbed the receiver, took off the charger guide, shortened the barrel, cut the wood, added a flip peep with new front sight. Etc. Did many models and grades.
