So my wife bought me an early Christmas present in the form of an M1 carbine that I just recived yesterday. I gave it a quick wipe down and knowing nothing about M1's started looking up markings. Well after a while I realized the stock had no markings that I could make out. So I looked and looked and (maybe wanting to see something) think i found some, but I cant make out what they are. So I though id ask on here to see what you guys thought about it.

You may want to wipe the stock down with some Hoppes and remove a few layers of grime and then rehydrate the wood with raw linseed oil. Any markings on the stock will then stand out more clearly. Congrats on getting a great Christmas present and enjoy it!

Goodness gentleman! I was hoping to find something but you all have eagle eyes and vast knowledge. I will clean the rifle more in depth and give it a drink of linseed oil. Plus, not knowing anything about the rifles I will post a massive amount of pictures for you guys to scrutinize and inform me what should be done. I went home for lunch and took a few more images of the rifle. Please pardon the quality of the photos, I was in a rush. but it looks like the receiver might have rust? or maybe just discoloration? not quite sure. You cannot feel any pitting or abrasion but again, as a novice, I don't know what I'm looking for or at. I will post more pictures after I get home tonight of the entire rifle.
Oh and Durango, No visible marking inside the sling cutout but I'll take pictures, you guys might see something I don't.

Is the front bottom of stock flat?
I have a Winchester made a few thousands before yours. There are some things you should look at before doing much to that gun. For instance the rear adjustable sight has a great chance to be original to that carbine.
I had the great fortune to have Brian Quick run me through the whole deal regarding parts etc. Until he helped me I literally saw nothing about the carbine. Lots of small things to look at.You lucked out in the fact that it is a Winchester. People pay more for Winchesters. The name makes them grab their wallets. That looks like a great shooter.

I approve of that one, too. My Winchester is about 20,000 after yours. Look for a really small W (I think mine's horizontal) in the sling well. :thup: - Bob
Assuming I am reading the serial number correctly (6,64×,×××), the 4-rivet handguard is correct. Looks like a great gun. It has a terrific patina! Your wife did an excellent job!

Also look for letter or number stamped inside the stock on the bridge and right side shelf.
