M1 Garand Extractor Modified To Work in Carbine Bolt

Here's a odd one. A OI Inland bolt that had a Modified to fit Garand Extractor in it. The Plunger appears to be a Carbine late style that either thru use or more modifying has the tip peened over.

The owner said: "Looking closer I can definitely see how this extractor was "edited" to fit. Whoever did it seems to have done it well, the lines are very clean, and the corners sharp. The bottom edge was actually taken down to be flush with the bolt lug."
"The gun ran very well, but I only have put 50-60 rounds through it at a time before cleaning it."

Owner must have been WAY out in the bamboo to have adopted an M1 rifle extractor. Guess you use what you have? Lots of time on his hands too...or REALLY a cheapskate...

I've seen some whacky make this from that videos there. Like a guy using a washing machine motor and a bunch of gears and belts to turn a drum in to a brass tumbler

Seen it, kind of like making a cement mixer with a plastic bucket. By the time you finish you've spent the same as buying a vibra tumbler.

Cement mixers work well with washing clothes in the bush. Can do a section's washing in half an hour. No cement, sand or stone included in the washing process.

Pour fresh boiled water in periodically...yes, that would work. Guess things would dry in quick time there too.

The owner of the bolt posted a few pictures with the Garand Extractor set in place.

His words:

Here are a few pictures of the extractor installed in the bolt, and some other angles of the modified area. Definitely done with a little skill, and it probably would have held up fine for a while until the plunger got too damaged to do it's job. If it weren't for doing the data sheet, I probably would not have taken the bolt apart and found this interesting little tidbit.

I'd bet the ranch that this thing would be a mess in short order. Most of the hardfacing has been filed away and unless the guy has some cyanide and a good heat plan, the thing is too soft to last.

He must not have had access to any other parts or was simply too cheap to buy anything. There ARE guys like that...

My Grandpa was the type that could build about anything from scrap junk... and it would look and work damn good. He'd of made a good homesteader. Even had making moonshine down pat.

I remember flying home from Ft Carson Colorado to a 10 day leave in Petaluma, CA. I hated flying anyway and we stopped in Salt Lake City for an hour or so, I asked the Stewardess where I could get a drink and she told me Utah was a dry state. This was in 1965. I'd never heard of a dry state before. Years later, my father in law who was from Kansas, explained the whole bath tub Gin thing and how they had to drive from county to county to get beer. This is uncivilized behavior.

Sounds like when I told my elderly neighbor I'd quit drinking some years before...he looked shocked and said "Oh dear! That's a terrible state of affairs"...
