I think this photo shows that getting a correct grade anything is just buying someone else's refurb.

I'm sure in the rear area they just dumped the parts out just like this. Which weapons got what parts during reassembly was a crap shoot.
Guess that's where my CMP Springchester came from.
I am sure that as long as the guns went "Click - Boom" that was all that counted to them.
And that's all that counts on the line.
But years ago we were more concerned with new parts rather then if they were SA, WIN, IHC or HRA. We were just glad to have one. Now look at me all worried about one part left on mine that's the wrong year.:ugh:

Even if you put all the correct parts back, its just a correct MIXMASTER.

Here's another cleaning party. 7th CAV.
I remember the cleanup of M-14's at the end of basic training. We broke them completely down, dumped all the parts in a tub of Varsol and got after them with toothbrushes. Then we dried them, lightly coated them with oil, and reassembled the rifles. "Correct"? Yep. Guaranteed to have ALL the parts and guaranteed to shoot when you pulled the trigger.
Same drill happened at Fort Knox with armor crewman training and M1911A1's.

We had mass assembly-reassemble parties in ROTC. Spring - clean and cosmoline. Fall - degrease with alcohol, clean, reassemble. All 100 M-1 rifles taken apart, put back together at random.
So much for the obsession with headspace in military issue rifles amongst surplus arms shooters.
Load, bang 8 times, ping. Works. Good enough for Army work.:thup:
But why are we so worried about every little part? I know I do, but I can't help it.:confused:

Kids!!!! Just don't appreciate all that tender, loving care and dedication on the assembly line building all those "correct grades"! Well, at least most of 'em made it home because of it! :thup:
A friend of mine, now long passed away, told me they would come in from the field, strip down and walk into the showers with there M1's. he said the washed there M1's first, then their body's. after that all the rifles came apart, keeping the right bolt to the reciever. then everybody took a part to clean. when it was all done, you just went down the line of clean parts and got what you needed to assemble your rifle. he said they never had a problem.
Well John C. Garand designed the M1 to be rebuilt countless times even by us:)
