Some U.S. Civil War period Colts.

With the exception of the Model 1849 Pocket Colt shown below, the other guns show significant wear.

The Model 1860 Colt Army is martially marked and was manufactured in early 1862 Sn. 48595.

The Model 1861 Colt Navy Sn. 3830 was manufactured in 1861.

The Model 1862 Colt Police Sn. 16534 was manufactured in early 1863.

The Model 1849 Pocket Colt Sn. 101792 was manufactured in 1855, and is in quite decent shape.

Wood and markings are a collecting weakness for me.
(I am sure I am not alone in this regard.)

Clear inspectors cartouches on grips, and crisp markings on the gun with
(at least some) original finish gets my motor running.

Not easy to find.....it all becomes relative to the price.
(I would have to be lucky these days.....because the pieces I like.....are out of my price range.)

What a great looking collection you have. I can only dream.
I do have a bullet collection of about 100-150 that i dug about 3 miles from my house here in Marietta Ga. I also found some Cannon frag. here at mud creek, about 5 miles from my home. I do have a few cannon ball's also.
All the gun's, i bought or traded here in the atlanta area, But not near as nice as the one's you have. I'll try and get everthing out tommorow for a photo and post a pic. lboos.

Thanks lboos, I would encourage you to go out and photograph all that stuff.

I am a really big believer in putting forward the best photos we can turn out...it makes this stuff come alive....as much as that is possible.

If nothing else it gives you a good record of your collection....for you or your heirs...when you are gone.

I believe it can also provide a huge learning venue for new collectors...as well as a platform for serious evaluation of what is correct and what is not.

I suspect the new format of this forum provides the opportunity to do that.

I have spent most of my time on a German pistol forum where decent photos were absolutely critical before anyone would offer a serious opinion in response to a question regarding a particular piece.

I tried really hard to expose my guns the best that I could.....it takes a lot of time and practice to get good photos.....but in the long run I think it is worth the effort.

David, I like the WW2 stuff also. Heres a pic. of my USGI Colt 1919A1 1943 and my S42 1936 luger. In the meantime im still getting my civil war things togeather for a pic. I have a cheap camara plus im new to all this hi-tech stuff as you can see so the qual. of the pic's are not to good.

I know they have little value to most collecter's but they mean a lot to me. It's a good feeling to pick up something like this knowing that the last person to touch it was a civil war Soldier. I did trade some of my bullet's to my friend who hunts with me so we could both have a mix of bullet's.
The good thing is they only cost a day of walking in the wood's and a 12 pack of Bud.:beerchug:

Civil War-Indian War-WWII sounds like my affliction.

I think having collected the Civil War ordnance in your geography is very
interesting....I can understand why it is very personal if you found the stuff.

I got bitten by one WWI piece...and I am resisting going further.....it can become a bottomless pit if you try and collect stuff from too many different historical periods.

You have a great looking collection from what i have seen. It is all a part of History. And it all started with black powder.
Im kinda at the bottom of the chain as far as a collecter goes. I can only afford about one or two item's from each era. The only three really nice guns i have is the M1 carbine, the 1911A1, and the luger. all the rest are are close to wall hanger's. But there still a part of our history and i enjoy handling them.

I just got back off the floor! Fantastic! Love the inspector's cartouche marks. That is my weakness too. The earliest clearly marked U.S. military arm that I've every owned was an 1807 lock dated Springfield flintlock musket. Traded that off a few years ago for two M1 Garand rifles and an Ott-three Springfield. Wish that I'd keep it! Thing was spectacular! Need to dig out some pictures and check out the cartouche. Again . . thanks for posting the photos.
