I am hoping someone has a bnz 42 no block, a block or b block rifle that has good markings showing on the buttstock. The specific markings that I am interested in seeing are the ones on the bottom edge of the buttstock showing the serial...subcontractor stamps and acceptance marks. My rifle is an "a" block and I am looking for reference as to what all markings are normally found there......Thanks in advance

Is your rifle a Steyr or Radom made rifle ?
The wa77 is present on the right side of my receiver and that tells me the receiver is Radom. The barrel code is something that I cannot understand but I do see a Star stamping and wa623 stamps on the right side of the barrel if that is any clue for you as to where the barrel was finished and installed.. Yessir i agree...it looks like it has spent some time in urgent environments since it was assembled. Some may have been state side from previous owners. It came to me complete except missing two parts. The barrel band spring and the complete bolt is MIA. Also has the wrong cleaning rod installed. The rifle is otherwise from what i can tell legitimate. If anyone sees anything contrary to that in my photos please elaborate. I have found what i think is at least a period correct steyr complete bolt matching to itself that i will use to complete to rifle,,,,thats the best i can do i guess. Once the band spring and bolt arrive and I have them installed and the head spacing checked/corrected i am going to take it to the range for function testing. I would love to know the whole story of how the rifle come to be in this condition and missing its bolt. I bet that would a interesting tell.Quote:

Thanks for that information bob. I read that Steyr really started relying heavily on contract assembly in 1942. What..if I may ask... was the best evidence for you in regards to where it was assembled? Thanks TravisQuote:

Got the replacement bolt in the mail today. It is just what i thought it was. It has waffen 623 stamped under the handle and on the shroud and safety. Will not close on my no go and does close on my go gauge. I do not have a field but its on its way....ordered one today. It is once again a complete rifle albeit with a unmatching bolt..... and i hope to soon make a range report.....i hope its a good shooter.
