We had a thread here some time back about instructional oversize weapons...that one's neat.
There was one of those hanging in the local vintage military weapons store for years. I always wanted it. Ironically, that store uses Proxbid for its auctions as well.

I have parts to two of these Garands. Not enough bits to make one complete rifle.
A small display of just the action, maybe. Sure wish I could find a loose trigger group but I imagine there aren’t many of those floating around.
When I was a kid (1950s) my friend had one of these and we would wander thru the neighborhood and play war with it. No one said a thing about it. Imagine doing that now!
When I was a young buck there was a now long defunct gun store that had a trifecta of oversized training weapons. That Garand a carbine and a 1919 .30 caliber machine gun. I picked up some good bargains when they closed but wish I had grabbed them too. They were selling all 3 for $150 US.
I have a manual from 1951 covering the oversized M1 rifle training model. This manual is from the US Navy and printed for the National Guard. Many National Guard units were issued these oversized M1 rifles and some old armories might still have them in storage, being Attachment 127454Attachment 127455Attachment 127456Attachment 127457a training aid it is not an accountable item.
Years ago SARCO had some parts and a friend bought a eight shot clip with oversized dummy cartridges from them.
At the other end of the spectrum, the Winter 2011 GCA Journal ran a terrific article from a collector of Garand letter openers... souvenirs from many different places, over 200 of them! Neat.
When I was in high school and college, I used to make regular pilgrimages to my favorite Army surplus store, the Duffel Bag in Tacoma, WA. They had an M1 Carbine oversized training rifle hanging from behind the counter for many years. Unfortunately, they, like most surplus stores, went the way of the Dodo.
