I might have a picture of one - not sure about the "30-06" though.
I have several pictures of red-banded Remington M1903s, though.
Thanks Rick.
Stupid thing that I did was to take what little red paint that was left off of mine years ago.
Cary
Do you mean like this rifle?
Email me if you have need of a specific view and I can send you a high resolution one.
I have no idea what the stamps on the butt mean, if a reader knows enlighten me.
PWR Prince of Wales Regiment
But you probably already knew that
Not a clue about the other one
Mine is marked to the RCAF
Thanks for the pictures.
Yes thats it. Thats what I was looking for, and the "C" and arrow means it was with Canada during WW2. Hope I'm not wrong on that .
I have one of those Canadian Red Band 1917's. It has two C^ stamps on the stock & one on the receiver. I have not taken any photos of the stamps.
Here is an old overall photo of it.

I have two winchesters with the paint. One with the canadian marks and "55 RCA" over a "24". Need to take some pics one of these days. :)

This is fortuitous, I saw one of those yesterday at the range. A very nice rifle that after reading the above I'm sure was loaned to the Canadians. The rifle belonged to a guys whose parents had brought it to the range to see how it would pattern. It was a very nice 90% + import marked rifle. About 50% of the red paint was visible and the 30-06 was easy to make out.

Nope. Heck, I didn't even know that the "C" over the broad arrow was Canada.
Found this piece in a Missoula gun shop, as a consignment, about 6 years ago. It has a nice bore and obviously has been well taken care of. I purchased specifically because of the red band.
My 1917 has a capital T C with a 53 under the letters what would that stand for
We'll look into that for ya rice 123

Hey rice 123
Was Canadian Engineers The T.C. is for Tramway Company. Hope that helps, still looking at numbers.
Hello !
I`ve got an Winchester M 1917 also red-banded with an canadian broad arrow. There where also this markings onthe buttstock: ST.D and C.C.T.C.
and the 64.
Can anybody tell me what this means?
Gunner
gunner,
I'll try or LMDawson might find out something on it.
Cary
Gunner,
I am currently trying to find any information on your rifle. Is the Broad Arrow alone or with a C around it? Any other markings?
Best Regards
Lisa
Lisa,
Thank you for answering. The Broad Arrow is with an C around it. There are no other markings on the buttstock. There are some markings on the forestock in front of the magazin. The problem is that they´re not in good condition. I think that´s 5 letters and i can read only a YW?K?. On the rest of the rifle are the normally markings like eagleheads, the bomb and the W`s.
Thank you for your efforts.
Best regards
Gunner
Hi Lisa,
Here are some Pic`s of my Winchester M 1917. They are not the best but i hope they can help you by your search.
All the best
Gunner
Thank you, that helps a bunch. Looks Like a C.O.T.C., which I did find. When I get home tonight I will post that for you.
Best Regards
Lisa
Your C with the Broad Arrow looks like a Canadian Land Service and the COTC stands for Canadian Officers Training Corps and the D maybe Dalhousie University. I will keep checking around for more info.
Best Regards
Lisa
My M1917 was a re-import I bought two years ago from a local dealer. The stock has been heavily sanded, but proof and Canadian stamp are still visable. Reciever and Barrel (7-18) are both Remington. I searched for traces of red paint with no avail. I suspect it was present, however, as the front of the stock seems to have been sanded a little harder than the rest of the stock, suggesting the importer wanted it removed for cosmetic reasons. It's too bad. Overall, it's a nice rifle and a pretty good shooter.
Could you please send a pic of the markings on the right side of the buttstock?
Regards,
Gunner
