Mystery Inland 3,543,98? Carbine

OK,
Ran across a humped with fake parts carbine then noticed the Inland stamp and a serial number of 3,543,98? I just can't see the last digit. I'll add the GB listing but it will soon time out then no pictures will be available. I grabbed the only pictures that could help ID the receiver maker. It has the Round op slide mill cut. Short hand guard lip. In the 3rd picture between Inland and the serial number you can see where the rear bevel has been ground on heavily. Has a Inland 2-44 barrel with repro Type I barrel band, repro IN-B flip sight.

Can anyone recognize the front receiver ring markings? What maker is this one?

A very rare and highly sought after SG/Inland. Only one was manufactured.

Wow! A sg/Inland with an experimental Inland 44 slide and safety. It must have been the very late SG found under the work table and shipped to inland for completion after Saginaw shut down their production! How else can this be explained??? After all, there is no Saginaw name lined out!

That receiver has more cavities than Swiss cheese. Looks like it was made out of a sponge.

Thing is...it says it sold for the first bid price, just over a grand. So...shill bidder and just a scam or did some poor guy buy this? It might make a shooter anyways? I understand you can't get a carbine for low money in USA anyway?

I looked and there is NO feedback left by the GB buyer bowyer636 A+(17) or the GB seller OTBFirearms A+(6352). This 'Sale' was back on 2-14-24. It isn't currently listed, but could have been re-listed and sold again over the time that has passed.

Since it isn't a Inland and to me the serial number looks messed with especially the short 4 and the last 2 digits, 8 and ? I can't see clearly. The whole serial number sorta reminds me of some of the messy IBM / AO's we've seen.

Legal Issues
Is it possible a guy could have 'issues' trying to transfer this gun? I'm still not sure who made the receiver. Seller had no inside pictures, likely to hide the pitting. But those pictures might have gave some clues like the recoil tang size and left rear detail.

Front Receiver Ring Markings
I want to compare the markings to 1 each of my SG and S'G'. But spent this morning gathering the 'Strategic' hand guns and company is due any minute. I've been pre-warned not to be dragging gun crap all over the house again so we can have 1 dinner without looking like a Armory..... :surrender:

so the serial number always dictates who made the receiver?

The grinding on the rear bevel removed part of the original INLAND DIV stamp at the bottom of the letters, then the deep Divot below that which distorted the sides where they meet the top of the receiver. Most of the original serial number IMO was likely gone from the heavy pitting. The grinding left only some partial original serial numbers. Other numbers were added to make a New serial number to Salvage or Account for this carbine.

"It is a late 4 mil to early 5 mil Inland receiver with the original serial number ground off and new one added. the last number of the new serial number looks to be a 5

"The pitting on the receiver makes me think it was in the South Pacific region. There is a post on these forums (TCCCF) about some that had numbers replaced, probably due to someone losing theirs and the need to account for their serial number"

Regarding Picture:
"look at all the grinding marks on the rear of the receiver going side to side. Look at other receivers, the machining goes from front to back.
Part of Inland clearly ground off. left side arrows show a depression which interrupts the transition from side to top of the receiver, go look at photo 16 in the auction.
Red box you can see the last digit of the original serial number."

When I look at the Inland name, it appears to me to have been stamped in two different parts. They appear to me to be set at slightly different angles. I know pictures can be deceiving, but look closely and see if you don't see the same thing.
