Is there a friendly member in the US who would help out getting a 1903 rearsight assy shipped to me in the UK?
There is one on ebay at the moment that I would like to buy but the seller won't ship to the UK
I'll happily cover any costs incurred

Normally I'd say "No problem" but the current regime is so anti-Republican, anti-gun, and has so corrupted the Department of Justice that I'm not willing to risk a decade in prison. They'd tack on another 10 years if they find out I voted for Trump.
I wonder if it would be possible to use the services of a US forwarding agent and get the US seller to post the item to the forwarding agent who then posts it to you? You would have to be careful to stay within US law because it is a gun part, a rear sight, that you are trying to send outside of the US to the UK but that would be the case if you were using a forwarding agent or you got a private individual in the US to help you.Quote:

On my last visit to the US I brought back an M78B1 scope and a Enfield No4(T) No32 scope.
After arriving home I received many horror stories about what would have happened if I was 'rumbled'!

You need to be sure to stay the right side of the law both in the US and the UK in this situation.
When I was an ITAR registrant allowing me to broker export shipments for other sellers overseas, I would have been happy to do it for you. Not enough people wanted my services, so I gave it up. I've explained this over many years here on this forum. Again, all firearm component parts, and some accessories are considered regulated items under ITAR and must be lodged with Census/CBP to obtain an AES ITN which must be entered on the PS 2976-R declaration form. It's been overlooked for many years by those who chose to remain ignorant, but the regulators are catching up.
Both of the telescopes you imported required export licensing. You're very lucky that US CBP didn't catch them, or they would have been confiscated. To add to the ridiculousness, if I bought those two scopes in England and brought them back to the US, there's no import licensing required.
What could we call it other than a rear sight for a gun? I mean, all it really is is a calibrated sliding aperture on a mount.

At least it's not going to Switzerland. Years ago I sent a Christmas package to some colleges in Switzerland. A couple of beer glasses, a T-shirt and home made candy. Cost of the goods? $75. FedEx charged over $200 to ship it, and then the Swiss Government billed my buddy $50 in import duties. Organized crime is cheaper.
I suppose it makes sense imposing rules and regulations for such things, but they don't seem to be applied sensibly.
A barrel, bolt, firing pin etc you would understand - but a rear sight from a 100 year old rifle?
I've just received another small package from the US - an original blued stacking swivel and band for my 03A4.
Bought from a seller I've dealt with before on that auction site, and delivered with no problems

its for a 1903A1 - the rifle is in almost unissued condition (currently with earlier sight fitted), so I'm looking for a correct sight in similar condition
To be clear you're looking for a rear movable sight base with slide assembly? On a m1903a1 earlier sights can also be considered correct. Devil in the details.

Hello, Scope elements are classified ? for example the "UP" turret of a Weaver 330 C scope or the locking spring of this turret ? I am looking for these elements and the scopes, in France, are not classified. The USA is blocking sales and the US seller should find a way to export the small elements (screws, springs etc... which could be applied to any mechanical or domestic object ... or astronomical scope of artisanal manufacture). :mdr:
Spare parts for the scopes are no problem but the complete scopes require export licensing from BIS, U.S. Dept. of Commerce. Component parts are supposed to be lodged with Customs and Border Patrol/Census by a registered exporter prior to shipment with an AES ITN issued. Read my explanation above. The Biden administration has thrown a huge wrench into all BIS exports that goes into effect on 30 May. The process was streamlined starting during the Obama/Biden administration for everything except small arms and components and finalized during the Trump administration. DoC was actually a pleasure to work with for those short four years. Now it's been reversed causing huge hassles for buyers and sellers in the commercial sector. It's totally political and the goal is to destroy the firearms industry in the USA according to global anti-gun policies. Don't try to make sense of it because there isn't any. As a very small importer/exporter, it's not worth the heartache and hassle for me anymore.
