Pretty neat idea to use his shaving brush as a sand and grit remover for his M1 haha
a college friends father had to stand guard over a bunch of M1 buried in the sand on a beach. after a week they were dug up rinsed in the ocean water and test fired. they were functional
We used the Army issue toothbrush to clean the rifles. They were so awfully bad that no-one used them for brushing their teeth. But they worked fine enough on the BM59 and SC70/90. On the Garand too, but that was only for a few weeks, before we moved to the FAL TA (Fucile Assalto Leggero Truppe Alpine), aka BM59.
My shaving brush was to clean my M14.
Thanks all who posted.
I wonder how many shaving brushes will be scooped up
From garage sales and flea markets after seeing this? :-)
I bought one recently from eBay to go with my early buddy kit from 1941. Honestly that's what made me notice it in this picture haha. And from the looks of the picture, it looks like he's using the exact same kind I bought recently. I try to collect everything a regular GI would have had with him in the field
Yes, Jond41403 has the issue shaving brush and Mark shows the issue rifle brush. One can use the issue shaving brush for both rifle and shaving but while it's wet it doesn't work.
